3.0 out of 5 stars Inaccurate readings
I bought a Bonjour Culinary Laser Thermometer directly from Chef's Resource in January 2010. I discovered that the device I got was not very accurate -- off by as much as 10 degrees when measuring boiling water. When I tried to return this product to them, I was told that they don't give refunds on any items that had been used. So now I'm stuck with an expensive,...

I love this gadget! I would not have initially purchased this for myself, but now I absolutely love having this level of control over pan temperatures. I use this product at least 6 days a week. The only days this product is not used in my kitchen are the days that I don't cook.

I don't just use this product on the stove top I also use it to check the temperature of the pizza stone in my oven so that we get a crispy pizza crust every time. I also use it to confirm that the food that I am "holding" in a low oven is out of the danger zone for the days when dinner is delayed waiting for someone to get home. I also use this item to confirm that food has cooled down enough to go into the refrigerator without compromising the integrity of the food already in there. Additionally, I use this item to check the temperature of food inside the refrigerator to be certain that it is keeping food at below 40 degrees.

If you are a serious cook I cannot recommend this product strongly enough. Knowing the actual temperature of your pan, pizza stone and food translates into perfect results every time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Boujour laser thermometer, November 2, 2007
This review is from: BonJour Culinary Laser Thermometer, Black (Kitchen)
I have used the Bonjour thermometer for about a year.
The thermometer is quite accurate (~1F). I have tested it
in the oven and in the refrigerator. I find it very useful
to measure the temperature of grills, hot frying oils, calphalon
pans, heavy cast iron skillets, simmering sauces, woks, and oven stones.
Measuring the temperatures of frying oils or getting the cast iron skillets
really hot (600F) enough for searing steaks are ideal for the laser
thermometers. I can now get a steak perfectly seared everytime resulting
in a juicy and tender steak. The secret was getting the
pan to the right initial temperature. Now the user should be beware
that the temperature depends on the emissivity of the material, so
measuring the surface of shiny pans (ex. my expensive french copper pans ) will yield
the wrong temperatures. So far I have not yet figured out how to
measure the temperatures in my favorite Dehillerin copper saute pan
yet.

So now I'm stuck with an expensive, under-performing kitchen tool. My advice: if you insist on buying one of these gadgets, first make sure you can get your money back from the seller -- otherwise you'll be out cost, plus tax and shipping.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid addition to a well stocked kitchen, January 19, 2010
This review is from: BonJour Culinary Laser Thermometer, Black (Kitchen)
I have been coveting a laser surface thermometer for a while now and finally broke down and bought this one, b/c of the other reviews and the price was under $100. It came today and I love it. This is a great tool that I should have had years ago.

The Bonjour has a sturdy construction that feels good and comfortable in the hand and isn't too bulky. It works exactly as described and has all the necessary features, including the laser pointer, back light, min, max, etc. I was worried that the built in swivel probe would be awkward but it tucks away nicely and you don't feel its presence until you need it. Thumbs up here.

2.0 out of 5 stars Half of it works., July 28, 2009

The surface scanner seems to work fine. I'm working on checking its accuracy. The temperature probe does not work. Very disappointing. Almost burned two meals.
