only one part is unbreakable, the others snap like twigs,
This review is from: BonJour Monet 8-Cup Unbreakable French Press (Kitchen)
I got this for my wife for Xmas 2005, as we have a nasty habit of breaking the glass carafes of french presses. The company is right about one thing: the polycarbonate carafe is much stronger than glass carafes and I can't imagine it breaking under normal use. BUT in less than 6 months the inner press piece to which the filter attaches has broken THREE times. This was under absolutely normal use. The piece is clearly made of insufficiently sturdy plastic. So much for "unbreakable." Once the filter piece goes the whole thing is no more usuable than a french press with a broken carafe. SO.... the whole thing is hardly "unbreakable"!
The first two times the filter press piece broke, to their credit the company replaced it quickly. The second time I asked for a different style unit with a metal filter press piece, but got the same old plastic style unit in the mail a week or so later. Guess what? It just broke again 10 minutes ago, after less than a month's use. Clearly this is a DESIGN FLAW. I'm going to try again with BonJour's customer service and demand a unit with a metal, not plastic, inner piece. Wish me luck. And do yourself a favor: do NOT buy a BonJour french press with plastic pieces inside! (Check out some of the other Amazon reviews for BonJour french press models. The same thing happens to those!)

Cheap Plastic Plunger,
By made of very thin and cheap plastic. Mine lasted two weeks. After e-mailing the seller and calling the manufacturer, I decided to throw it in the trash and spend $75 on a German one called Frieling. You get what you pay for and if the item is bad "you pay and pay and pay for what you got".

Plunger on filter broke after 5 days!,

It is so frustrating to be missing the piece, we searched where we dump the coffee grounds, but no luck. For $20 bucks, we could have bought a drip and thrown it away after a week.
DONT BUY this thing!

In defense of Meyer Corp/BonJour - Like all above reviews, we had a similar experience. The filter components fell apart, after only a month's use. We originally purchased this Coffee Press for its unbreakable feature ... excellent for our road trip this year. Due to the breakage of our Bobum glass carafe, we had a chance to use our Monet as we await carafe replacement. We are very careful & never put our old Bodum in the dish washer, nor did we, our new Monet. My husband ended up loving the Monet more, for the finer screen & the added screen on the spout of the lid assembly ... less sediments in the morning cup!
We tried to snap back the filter parts as they don't unscrew from the rod & couldn't, so I went back to the instruction-insert to check the warranty section, contacted Cust. Svc ... the Ph # provided ... A very patient lady gave me instructions to return the failed product to their warranty dept that was less than a month ago (Mar.26, 2010) ... Voile!!! we just received today, a much better 8-cup BonJour (Maximus) C-Press w/ metal filter component ... unfortunately not the unbreakable carafe we favored for out road trip!!!

One Part is Not Unbreakable,

I read the reviews but needed an 8-cup French press with an unbreakable polycarbonate (plastic) carafe for camping trips, so I bought it. I thought that I will use it infrequently, so the plastic bracket that holds the rubber rim in place over the screen may not break on me. Wrong! On only the fourth camping trip I discovered the rubber rim was loose because the weak plastic bracket on the plunger was broken and half was missing. It had snapped off and was gone, so the press was useless. This is indeed a design flaw. The rest of the Bonjour press is fine. Now I am going to contact Bonjour and ask them for a replacement plunger or to replace this press with their new design. If they have fixed the design flaw, that should solve my problem.
Update: I did contact Bonjour and complained about the broken plastic plunger. They said they would ship me a replacement product without the flaw. One year later and they have NOT. Please don't buy this French Press. It is flawed, it WILL break, and Bonjour's customer service is non-existent.

I got this for my birthday and loved it. Made great coffee--- until the plunger broke after 1 month. The plastic plunger is made of REALLY light weight plastic. A few cents worth of plastic to beef the plunger up would have made this 1-star into a 4-star. As it stands now, it's a bad design.
I'll probably go with another brand in case the other Bonjour presses have the same problem. Or at least look at the plungers VERY carefully. |
