Really the World's Best Foil Cutter and the Simplest,
By

This review is from: BonJour World's Best Foil Cutter (Kitchen)
This is a simple, straightforward product which works brilliantly every single time on many different size and bottle configurations. Note that many others require a "standard" bottle but there are a lot of small variations that prevent them from working. This adapts to wider and smaller mouth-bottles, bottles where there is a rim at the top or unusual ridges. All it takes is putting it on top, lightly compressing the device around the top of the bottle and a quick 90 degree twist and the foil is removes. Would work for arthritics because of the light pressure and works with light or heavy or plastic foil. Sometimes something clear, straightforward and simple, like a hammer or a screwdriver or this foil cutter is hard to improve upon. I got one for everyone in the family and everybody feels the same way.

My wife and I are "healthy" wine drinkers (a bottle every 1 to 2 days). We have a speed wine opener and were looking for a foil cutter to match. (Yes you can tear through the foil with the opener, but who wants that mess to tear away before pouring.) We were looking for quick cut on the foil, quick open on the bottle - fast and elegant. We've broken several plastic foil cutters, so something billed as the "World's Best Foil Cutter" sounds great, right?
First impression, - all plastic except for the blades and blade screws - not sure exactly what, but I expected something more substantial. In using, I initially thought it took a bit too much pressure to use, but then found a firm push downward, and a twist to the left and then to the right, and I had a clean cut. Counterpoint - my wife *never* got the hang of it, lest she scratch the @!$% out of the table as well. She hates this thing and has asked several times why we own it. Well, all was fine and good with only me opening all of the bottles, and then... dum, dum, dee, dum... it broke on 5/29/2006, after purchasing on 1/31/2006. Four months of use and this is the World's Best? One of the six spindles broke off. The spindles on each side of the broken are bent, which doesn't work to engage on the bottle. It's worthless. All in all, this was a waste of money. Someone give me a standard foil cutter with a good blade, a strong metal frame, and I'll buy. Pass on this one. 6/2006 follow-up: I've now found the world's best in the "Dalla Piazza Stainless Steel Foil Cutter" available through Amazon, and for less. Review of that one posted as well.

Good but maybe not the worlds best.,

This is a good foil cutter. It looks nicer than many and is attractive on the table or wine bar. It also attracts attention and has proved to be a conversation starter with my guests (What is this?).
It does a pretty good job of cutting foil though there have been several rather stubborn bottles it took several tries to cut. So while this is a good product and I use it quite frequently I wouldn't consider it the worlds best.
