3.0 out of 5 stars Who is Milan Walden?, July 12, 2007
This review is from: A Bona Fide Gold Digger (Paperback)
Happiness through money and sex, is it really possible? One woman's hunger to have it all, no matter what the cost, unfolds in Allison Hobbs' A Bona Fide Gold Digger.

Success and money is all Milan Walden craves to go along with her over abundant sexual appetite. When she finds herself unemployed, broke and possibly looking at jail time, she goes into hiding as a companion for a terminally-ill wealthy man. Once she enters his home, things change for Milan in more ways than one.

Noah Brockington, from what Milan can tell, has no family but a lot of money. The wheels start to churn inside of her head to come up with an idea to become Noah's sole heir. Both of them are obsessed with different things so it seems like the perfect match, no matter how twisted of a relationship they had. Could anything that seems that perfect really be perfect?

Allison Hobbs weaved together a world of continual surprises, including the strong personality of the characters. The use of the imagination used to create the setting is unlike anything that I have seen before. Some of the scenes were so out there that it seemed a bit hard to believe that it could possibly happen in reality. I believe this book would be an awesome read for someone that enjoys sordid sex tales with twisted surprises.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't Be Blinded By The Glitter Of "Fool's Gold"..., September 6, 2007

This review is from: A Bona Fide Gold Digger (Paperback)
Milan Walden is used to the good life: drop-dead gorgeous, six-figure salary, high-powered position as executive director of a top-shelf day salon - she's got it made. A creative genius to boot, it would appear that she has the Midas Touch; until of course, everything she touches turns to Fool's Gold. Out of nowhere, she loses it all: suddenly fired from her job for falsifying her credentials, credit cards cancelled, bank accounts frozen - her dream life quickly becomes a living nightmare...

Just when it seems things can't get any worse, her former employer threatens legal action for fraudulent credit card purchases, and Milan soon seems destined to lose her freedom on top of everything else. With nowhere else to turn, she soon receives word of a blessing in disguise: ailing multimillionaire Noah Brockington is in need of a companion to comfort him in his final days, and Milan fits the bill. Before long, she schemes her way not only into his home, but also his heart, and with both her impending marriage to him and his imminent death, she stands to gain big as the heir to his estate. Finally, her life appears to be getting back on track, until...

Every big payday has strings attached, and Milan soon finds herself sinking deeper and deeper into a dark world of sexual perversity and downright debauchery, first with Noah and eventually with her secret lover, Gerard. With each new disturbing twist, Milan questions just how bad she really wants what lies before her if she stays, and, of course, nothing she experiences can prepare her for the devastating secret about Noah she doesn't learn until it's too late...

If nothing else, A Bona Fide Gold Digger serves as a cautionary tale for all the money-chasers in the world. No matter how promising the prize, one must truly be prepared for the considerable costs of attaining it. As Milan eventually realizes, all that glitters is not gold, and the deceptive shine can often blind you to the true nature of your heart's desire.

Furthermore, it is often in greedy pursuit that we learn disturbing secrets about ourselves that we may be better off leaving undiscovered, becoming, by default, entirely different, unrecognizable beings. Throughout all the twists and turns on her path to Golddiggerdom, Milan subconsciously makes decisions that sever her close family ties and transform her into the same ugliness that compels her every selfish move.

With clever plot twists, and entertaining - if not disturbing - characters, A Bona Fide Gold Digger is an engrossing read. Hobbs's gritty narrative is sure to convince you that, no matter how bad your life may be, money is no panacea for all that ails you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything that glitters ain't always gold..., September 14, 2007
This review is from: A Bona Fide Gold Digger (Paperback)
Meet Milan, a young woman consumed by insecurities, the need for acceptance and love from her family, and a secret sex life, who has skillfully manuevered and manipulated her way into a successful career at a posh spa. She has unlimited access to company accounts, rocks the hottest gear, and indulges herself in a luxurious lifestyle. But as the saying goes, everything that goes up, must eventually come down. And as quickly as Milan has risen to the top, she's pushed even harder to the bottom where she desperately tries to claw her way back to her self-imposed throne, by whatever means necessary.

Consumed with fear that her former employers have filed legal charges against her, she goes into hiding at a sprawling estate under the guise of a live-in companion for an ailing rich man. However, her obsessive thirst for money, prestige, and power seduces her into conjuring up ways to become the sole heir of his fortune. Unfortunately, she will learn that everything that glitters isn't gold, and that there is always a price to pay. Just how far is she willing to go?

Allison Hobbs has penned another magnificent tale that is an entertaining and interesting read that will surely delight her readers.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars..., September 13, 2007
This review is from: A Bona Fide Gold Digger (Paperback)
The only reason I gave this one 4.5 instead of 5 stars was because of the S&M in the book. It's not my thing so it was more personal than literary... having said that: this was a book that you will not be able to put down! The story is fast, devasting, and sexy. Allison Hobbs can tell a tale and bring twists that you couldn't even imagine.

This story was a little "out there" and Milan... what secrets does her soul hide? She was pathetic and funny and that is hard to pull off! this woman had more nerve than a toothache to say, do, assume, and to expect the things she does. To call her a Gold digger would be like saying the sun is hot! Neither adjective does the noun any justice! Milan is off the chain and you'll hate her and love her at the same time.

Allison creates another story with her vintage wit, sex, surprises, and "brain-visual" candy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Shovels Ready...and DIG!, July 10, 2007
This review is from: A Bona Fide Gold Digger (Paperback)
In a bind and in desperate need of a place to stay, Milan Walden sees accepting a job as a live-in companion for a wealthy, dying man as the solution. She also sees DOLLAR SIGNS as her new employer, Noah Brockington, is single and has no family. Cha ching! Cha ching! While her job description is "unconventional" to say the least, Milan is willing to do these "tasks" because hopefully they will place her in the position as the lady of the estate after her employer passes.

A BONA FIDE GOLD DIGGER is a wild one! Allison Hobbs pushes the envelope yet again with this freaky tale of deceit and greed. Fans of Allison Hobbs will snatch this one up and enjoy her latest exploits.

3.0 out of 5 stars Who really was the Gold Digger, December 9, 2008
This story was worth reading, but it seem a lil far-fetch at times. Milan truly played herself, but in the end she came out on top. The erotic scenes were pretty descriptive. I will read some of her other books.
