4.0 out of 5 stars Refillable cartdridge
I've had the mop for about 6 months. You can drill a small hole towards the top of the cartdridge, fill the solution with a funnel and use a small cork to fill the hole. I have done this 3-4 times and it works great. I bought a 1.25 gallon refill which works out to be about a tenth of the cost vs. the cartdridge cost.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good mop, but cartridges not refillable
Just a note that as far as I can tell you can't refill the cleaning solution cartridge. Otherwise, I am happy with the spraying and head motion of the mop. I have my whole house in hardwood and will use this for quick cleanups, as the larger head mops (without the onboard sprayer) are better for large areas. If the cartridge were refillable I would give this a 5. I...

4.0 out of 5 stars Bona-Kemi hardwood spray mop, October 31, 2008
This review is from: BonaKemi WM710013348 Hardwood-Floor Spray Mop with Replaceable Cleaner Cartridge (Kitchen)
We received the Bona-Kemi mop about a month ago. I'd been cleaning the hardwood floors in our new house with a combo of vacuuming, Swiffer & hand-wiping with cloth/paper towels and Bona-Kemi spray. While you need to get the dirt/dog hair up before using the Bona-Kemi mop, the mop is a clear improvement over the Swiffer + spray or hand-wiping + spray--speedier and with better results.

The mop snapped together w/o difficulty. The microfiber cloth head is large, attaches/detaches easily with the velcro tabs and washes clean. The mop is lightweight and a comfortable height for use. The spray doesn't take much muscle in order to get marks off and leaves the floors looking gorgeous.

The spray cartridge holds a goodly (about a pint) amount of spray. I agree with other reviewers though, that it would be much better if the cartridge had been manufactured so as to be refillable. We can't get the cartridges in Alaska and have to ship from the lower 48, but the refill containers are sold at Spenard.

On examining the way that the cartridge is set up for use, it may be possible to refill it using IV tubing with a rigid catheter on each end (1 for the cartridge, 1 to tap into a refill container).

Conclusions: good value, efficient with excellent results. I'd have given it a "5" if the spray cartridge were refillable or more widely available.

I purchased a gallon of the cleaner with the mop that I won't be able to use with the mop, I can use it with my larger mop so no worries I guess.

I was looking for something besides my nearly useless Swiffer to clean my laminate and tile floors (I buy the laminate/tile cleaner instead of the hardwood floor), and had quite a difficult time. I wanted something with the simplicity of a Swiffer, but sturdier and more effective. I initially ignored this product because the reviews were quite mixed, but I kept coming back to it because it seemed like if it worked it would be exactly what I was looking for. When I couldn't find anything else, I finally caved and bought it, and I'm so thankful I did! It IS exactly what I wanted! The handle is sturdy...much better quality than my Swiffer. I've had no trouble with the trigger...it sprays out a nice fine mist. The microfiber pad is bigger than any other floor cleaner I've seen so I get more done in less time, but it's still narrow enough to turn sideways and get into small spaces. The microfiber pad also gets a much better "grip" on the floor, so it can actually scrub as opposed to the Swiffer pads that just slide around. And I love that I can just throw the pad in the wash. The one and only tiny issue I have had is that on rare occasion I won't get a good spray and I have to push down the cleaning fluid cartrdge to get it going again. But that only takes a second and it rarely happens anyways, so it doesn't bother me.

TIP: The cleaning fluid cartridges CAN be refilled! Just get a flathead screwdriver and pry off the the lid and use a funnel.

I bought my first Bona hardwood spray mop in May 2008. I like it so much I ordered a second one from Amazon for upstairs. It arrived last week and it didn't work -- the trigger didn't make contact with anything, just flopped loosely.

I didn't want the effort and expense of returning such a large, awkward item and decided instead to toss it. First, though, I thought I'd try to make it work -- and I succeeded. For anyone else who wants to try: I muscled the lower pole and handle section apart again, then disassembled the handle section with a T10 star head (Torx) screwdriver; inserted the plastic plunger inside its metal sleeve into the lower pole and fiddled with it until pressing the plunger got a spray; then reassembled the handle around the plunger/sleeve, matching the holes in the metal sleeve with the short raised circles inside the handle and positioning the trigger carefully.

I didn't read the reviews before I ordered the mop, since I already have one and I like it. If I'd read the reviews, I'd have seen that ordering one is a gamble -- you might get a good one, or you might get one that doesn't work.

I'd give 5 stars to my original mop, 1 star to the second mop.

Update: Before I posted my review (on the weekend), I wrote to Bona through their website. They wrote back Monday apologizing. They said they had a manufacturing glitch about 6 months ago, since corrected, and some defective mops went out before they caught it; they're sending replacements to customers who got one. They sent me a replacement, although I didn't ask for one. It arrived by the end of the week. I put it together in a couple of minutes without any trouble, and it works fine.

So -- ordering one is a gamble while faulty mops are still out there, but if you get a bad one Bona will replace it.

I just used this for the first time and I'm very pleased. A real upgrade from the various Swiffer mops I've owned, yet just as convenient! I love that the sprayer is hand-operated-- no batteries and no motor whine. The cleaner is unscented, dries quickly, and leaves my floors smooth and clean without that mysterious residue I always get from Swiffers. And I don't know if it's the cleaner or the microfiber pad (or the combination) working the wonders, but even the very old white linoleum tiles near my entry are shining now. The mop itself feels sturdy and is comfortable to use, the head is nice and large but swivels well to go into narrow spots, and the spray mechanism seems to be well-constructed. And the cleaner cartridges are now refillable-- a great benefit to the wallet and the environment. I haven't found a downside yet, but will update if I do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice mop and I LOVE the refillable cartridge, September 10, 2010
This review is from: BonaKemi WM710013348 Hardwood-Floor Spray Mop with Replaceable Cleaner Cartridge (Kitchen)
I've had my mop for a few weeks and just used it for the first time today and loved it! Since I had thrown the box away, I had no instructions on how to assemble the mop, so I used Google and found THIS Bona assembly video: [...] and after I watched the video, everything went well. You must make sure the cartridge is pushed down all the way into the reservoir in order for it to work. Push it until you hear a "click" and then it's seated properly.

The spray on the mop is nice and doesn't spray where it shouldn't. My old Swiffer (which died) use to spray my walls and appliances. The Bona mop doesn't. The cleaning liquid stays on the floor where it's suppose to be. I cleaned my kitchen, living room, hallway and office and used only 1/4 of the cleaning solution in the cartridge. NOT BAD! I like the finish it leaves...no sticky residue and no streaks on the hardwood floors. I'm not sure if I will continue to use the Bona cleaner. I know Bona says NOT to use vinegar water on your hardwood floors, but I have cleaned my hardwood floors with vinegar and water for YEARS....probably 10-11 years and they are not dulled, so I'm not so sure that's not just a sales pitch to buy their cleaner. ;) I do LIKE their cleaner, but it's expensive. Vinegar is CHEAP and also environmentally friendly. As for the microfiber pad, I like it A LOT. I always felt guilty using Swiffer Wet Jet disposable pads. Now I'm guilt free! These pads can be laundered and they are much wider than a Swiffer pad so that makes the cleaning go even faster.

The new Bona Cartridge can be refilled! THAT is why I bought this mop instead of another Swiffer Wet Jet.....and (the washable pads and NO BATTERIES). To refill the cartridge...just unscrew the cap and refill it. It doesn't get any easier. I refilled my Wet Jet bottles too, but they weren't meant to be refilled, so pliers and muscles were required to get the lids off and back on and eventually, the bottles had to be replaced. That's not going to be a problem with the cartridges unless the rubber o-ring wears out or deteriorates. I can see that as a possible issue in the future....we shall see.

The mop seems to be made really well, but only time will tell if it will last. I hope so. I like not having any batteries in the Bona mop! That's a huge PLUS, IMO.

My first experience with this mop was a good one (once I found the assembly video) and I really like it. I would recommend this to anyone in the market for a Green, environmentally friendly mop. So far, it's a great product.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great mop, but save money and don't op for the spray model., November 30, 2009
This review is from: BonaKemi WM710013348 Hardwood-Floor Spray Mop with Replaceable Cleaner Cartridge (Kitchen)
Just had hardwood floors put in the entire house and the installer suggested this mop. I've had a couple of problems with the sprayer. The first mop I bought wouldn't even spray so I had to return it. The next one seems to get "stuck" once in a while and I have to fidget with it until it will spray again. If I were to do this again I would buy the non-spray mop and purchase the hand spray bottle and spray the floors myself. The cleaner is what works wonders and makes the floors look nice. So, save yourself some money and buy the cleaner and any microfiber mop head.

I've tried to be positive about this, tried to keep an open mind and gracious attitude, but I'm finally at my wit's end.

First of all, the original product that they sent didn't work. The mechanism to shoot the spray didn't engage the bottle of cleaner--the core function of the unit. The company that I bought it from through Amazon (Polstein's Home and Beyond--now Floorcleaners, I believe) wanted me to send it back, but it's impossible to disassemble after the two halves have been put together, so it's impossible to actually send back if it's defective.

After a few calls and a few emails, Bona sent me a replacement. This also didn't work. I eventually convinced them to send me one and have them walk me through the assembly step by step to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong. I should mention at this point that I'm not someone who typically has problems assembling things. I went step by step through the assembly process (I even offered to hook up my webcam, but the technician was sure it wouldn't be necessary.

No dice. Didn't work.

I finally convinced them to send me a unit assembled and tested.

Sadly, that's not the end of the problem. The bottle of cleaner comes loose from the unit if you move the mop too quickly. After all the trouble I went through to get a unit that actually gets the spray to work, I can't get the bottle to stay on.

For the amount of time and aggravation I've spent on it, I might as well get on my hands and knees and wash the floors with a rag. This is the worst product of its kind I've ever encountered and a perfect example of a company who has a wonderful core product (I love my Bona floors) expanding into an area in which they have no expertise resulting in a product that does their brand more harm than good.

Do yourself a favor and stay far far far away from this product.

4.0 out of 5 stars This faulty mop is ticking me off!! UPDATED: GOT A WORKING ONE!!!, January 30, 2009
This review is from: BonaKemi WM710013348 Hardwood-Floor Spray Mop with Replaceable Cleaner Cartridge (Kitchen)
The mop I used before purchasing this Bona mop was a simple microfiber floor mop (Method). The handle on it broke so I decided to get a new one and maybe upgrade a little and get an on-board sprayer. I was all excited to give this mop a shot and just as eager to try the Bona cleaning solution for the first time. You can imagine my disappointment when FINALLY I was able to do my floors, (finding time to thouroughly clean my floors is tough w/ 4 kids under 6), and the darn thing didn't even spray solution. I read the very simple directions over...there's really no room for error. Actually, it did squirt like 5 times, but little spurts, not a wide spray like it was supposed to do. So my 6 yr old suggested I hold down the trigger for a while. For giggles I did just that and lo and behold got a real live spray out of it and then NOTHING. That was it. No more spurts, sputters, nothin'!! So I brought it back and was able to exchange it for another, assuming it was just a faulty mop, maybe I was the 1 out 100 that got stuck with the broken one or something. So I bring the new one back and this one doesn't even squirt!! Nothing has come out of the nozzle at all, not even once. So I am beyond peeved!! I am waiting for a return phone call.

UPDATE: So the company, after having to leave a couple messages that didn't get returned and calling back a few times, finally delivered a new mop to me. Apparently I bought two faulty mops b/c this one works just fine. It's been a while now since the time I wrote the initial review and now, and it is still working wonderfully. I'll give it a 4 now...nothing super special about it, but it works and does what it's supposed to do. Just be cautioned that you might get a faulty one but they really do make working ones!!!!
