5.0 out of 5 stars A parrot food that gets eaten
Don't know if its a quirk of my Amazon parrot, but every other food I've tried, most of it usually gets thrown on the floor. This one he relishes! Very little is wasted.

Our Alexandrine isn't a picky guy, and he certainly munched on this contentedly. My first clue that maybe this was going to be a one-time only purchase- the much touted easy open zip top seal died the second time I tied to open the bag. To add insult to injury, I think the bird food at Amazon sits in the warehouse for awhile; it was full of seed moths! I ended up throwing it out before we'd used 1/4 of the bag. So if you decide to bit the bullet and buy this, keep a bag clip handy and either store it in the freezer, or invest in some of those pantry moth pest traps.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nutritionally inappropriate choking hazard in a bag, October 28, 2009
By
Dee42 (White Haven, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hartz Bonanza 4-Pound Gourmet Diet Supply, Guinea Pig (Misc.)
Guinea pigs are not seed eaters and do not need the artificial colors or other nonsense added to this food to make unsuspecting buyers think there's something healthy about it. Chock full of choking hazards for guinea pigs. Stick to a quality brand like Oxbow.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bait and Switch, May 26, 2010
I was surprised and disappointed that when I reordered "Paraket Gourmet Diet" food, I was instead sent a lesser, non-gourmet version "Parakeet Diet" described in the other one-star review. This is known as "bait-and-switch" and it is dishonest.

1.0 out of 5 stars sell what is advertised, September 11, 2009
I'm very disappointed that what we received is the blue packages of Hartz in the mail. I thought you still had some of the original food in the warehouse. The picture shows the original packaging. The new blend is completely different than the old food. I hope and pray our little bird will get used to the new food in time. I mix the old & new, but he won't eat very much of it. I have shopped all over and finally found some of the old food.

1.0 out of 5 stars Please don't feed your rabbit this food, April 2, 2009
This food is inappropriate for any rabbit's diet. It is filled with seeds, corn, and other high calorie pieces not suitable for a rabbit's diet. Seeds and corn can lead to health risks such as G.I. stasis (very serious and fatal health problem).

I don't understand why companies still sell this as being rabbit food so I advise anyone who cares about their bun to stay away from this food. The best diet for a adult rabbit is one high in fiber. It's recommended to feed 1/4-1/3 cup of timothy pellets and unlimited amounts of hay. 0-6 months rabbits should be fed alfalfa pellets.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOW I remember why I never buy Hartz for my parrots..., August 25, 2011

At least 75% of this bag was cheap fillers, such as sunflower seed, dry corn, peanuts, and soybeans. I sat for over an hour and worked through it, cupful by cupful, pulling out much of the junk, and ended up with half a bag of semi-acceptable food for my 8 parrots - and that was leaving the sunflower seeds and the garish artificially-colored bits and neon-dyed seeds in the mix. I always combine several brands together in my feed jar, and it's only for this reason that I didn't return it. The outside birds got the junk, and I've mixed in extra portions of the high quality foods to make up for the inferior quality of what was in this bag. What a shame that I spent money on this.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT healthy for guinea pigs!, January 16, 2011
This review is from: Hartz Bonanza 4-Pound Gourmet Diet Supply, Guinea Pig (Misc.)
I used Hartz brand food when I had hamsters, and it was great. Hartz knows how to manufacture quality foods for SOME rodents. However, many people are not aware of the specifics of guinea pigs' diet, and mistakenly think that Hartz food is okay for them.

Shame on Hartz for selling this product specifically for guinea pigs, because this is not what pigs ought to be eating, and they ought to know better. As my vet put it, pigs technically can eat the seeds and artificially colored cereal bits in this mixture, but it's a lot like feeding a human Twinkies 24/7. Guinea pigs are not built to digest seeds, in particular, and there is risk of digestive problems, which can be very serious issue.

Buy a simple, quality pellet from Oxbow or Nutriphase for your piggies, and stick to hamsters and gerbils if you're going to buy Hartz.

2.0 out of 5 stars Item we got is different, January 8, 2011

I saw good reviews and ordered it but what i got is "Parakeet Canary & Finch Nutritionally Compelte Blend" Lesson learnt check what you have ordered and what you got, It has lot of wheat and lentils, almost 20-30% is going waste, my birds are not enjoying it and feels bad to throw a cup full of seeds every 2 days.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to find...online, February 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
When my rabbit was a baby I found this food at Petco, Petsmart and even Target and Walmart. Little by little they all stopped carrying so when I would find it, I'd buy 4 or 5 at a time. Now they have substituted it for cheaper brands (made in China) which stay on the shelf and don't sell and I know this for a fact. Seems to me if something is selling well, why get rid of it. That being said, the price did go up quite a bit in these stores for a 4lb bag and that may have something to do with it. My rabbit is a picky eater and she notices when she doesn't have her brand food and she rather eat plastic, literally, then touch her food. So now I have a spoiled rabbit who'll only eat this as part of her regular diet. She gets fresh grass, fruits and veggies too but she loves her Hartz.
