As one of the first and still most beloved westerns of all time, Bonanza told the story of life on the Ponderosa ranch for Cartwright patriarch Ben and his three sons Adam, Hoss and “Little” Joe. Whether the action took place on the ranch or in nearby Virginia City, audiences could bet that they’d get a dose of drama, action and down-home family entertainment. This five-DVD set contains over 12 hours of the most memorable episodes in BONANZA'S stellar 14-season run.

    1.0 out of 5 stars Bonanza 10 pack videos December 6, 1999
    Format:VHS Tape
Madacy Videos does a very poor job in the copying of these wonderful shows. The sound is terrible and the videos is fuzzy and hard to see. It's a shame....this television series deserves a lot better than this....If anyone knows of someone other than Madacy Videos that does copies of the Bonanza series....let me know. Sad....Sad..mbk in ark

4.0 out of 5 stars Same eps as 31-DVD set March 7, 2003
    By A Customer
    Format:DVD
These are good solid family episodes, but if you already own the 31-DVD set, you already have them:
The Avenger. -- Last Trophy. -- Dark Star. -- Spitfire. -- Abduction. -- Courtship. -- Escape to the Ponderosa. -- The Ape. -- Blood on the Land. -- Badge Without Honor. -- The Hopefuls. -- Denver McKee. -- The Fear Merchants. -- Gunman. -- Bitter Water. -- The Mill. -- The Blood Line. -- Death at Dawn. -- Day of Reckoning. -- Desert Justice.
4 stars for being another release of the same eps we see over and over. Sure wish someone would put out the comedies like Woman of Fire, The Hayburner, Ponderosa Matador, Bank Run, The Wooing Of Abigail Jones, Hoss & the Leprechauns, Easter Bunny Crossing . . .

    1.0 out of 5 stars Bonanza 10-pack February 4, 2000
    By A Customer
    Format:VHS Tape
Although I loved all 10 of these excellent episodes, the film quality was very poor. The sound was terrible, and the picture was snowy. It made viewing the tapes unbearable.

1.0 out of 5 stars All shows January 12, 2000
    Format:VHS Tape
The shows are excellent - but I agree with the other commentor, the audio and video are terrible. There's no excuse with today's technology to be producing such poor quality video. I would encourage your company to refuse to carry their products until they improve.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good selection of early episodes August 11, 2001
    By A Customer

Seven solid episodes from the first year of the TV Western series "Bonanza."

V.2 - THE STRANGER: Ben is running for governor of Nevada when a detective (Lloyd Nolan) tracks him down to face an old, mistaken murder charge in New Orleans. Ep 24, 2/27/60
V.3 - ESCAPE TO THE PONDEROSA: Three escaped prisoners from an Army camp ambush Adam, then try to hide from their pursuers who are led by a renegade prison captain. Joe Maross, Grant Williams, Gloria Talbert. Ep 25, 3/5/60
V.4 - SAN FRANCISCO (aka SAN FRANCISCO HOLIDAY): On a visit to the Barbary Coast, Ben and a couple of hands get shangaied. Hoss, Joe and Hop Sing come to the rescue. (No Adam in this episode.) Robert Nichols, Kathleen Crowley, Richard Deacon. Ep. 28, 4/2/60
V.5 - BITTER WATER: A silver mine speculator tries buying land from a Ponderosa neighbor, and mixes sick cattle with Cartwright stock. Don Dubbins, Merry Anders. Ep 29, 4/9/60
V.6 - FEET OF CLAY: Hoss befriends a homeless boy whose escaped convict father makes his way to the Ponderosa. When the father commits a murder during a robbery, Hoss is forced to kill him, then must face the boy. Logan Field, David Ladd. Ep 30, 4/16/60
V.7 - DEATH AT DAWN: Ben and his sons are sworn in as deputies to help make sure a murderer hangs. When the gang leader captures Ben in an attempt to force them to free the murderer, Adam must try to outthink him in order to save his father's life. Ep 32, 4/30/60
Videos include a brief clip of background information on the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Meanwhile, back at the ranch.... July 11, 2004
    By A Customer
    Format:DVD
These are among the usual assortment of episodes that are shown over and over on various cable and satellite channels. They are also among the only episodes avaialbe anywhere on DVD--those that were allowed to fall into the public domain. The quality of these presentations on this DVD is good with excellent clarity and good color. These have probably not been ditigally restored, but play as well as any you'll see on television today. These 20 episodes also DO have the opening titles with the original Ponderosa map burning and the original theme music, as well as the original closing credits. Nothing is missing or substituted on these DVD's. 20 episodes at this price makes this set a real bargain. One can only hope that whomever owns the copyright on the rest of the episodes decides to release then on DVD in the future. But considering that such popular western series as The Wild Wild West and Gunsmoke are not on DVD, don't hold your breathing waiting for more Bonanzas.
