5.0 out of 5 stars A Compact Survey of Bonaventure's Spirituality, January 13, 2005

This review is from: Bonaventure (Crossroad Spiritual Legacy) (Paperback)
Zachary Hayes delivers a comprehensive yet compact survey of Bonaventure's spirituality. Hayes presents Bonaventure who, following the spiritual path of St. Francis of Assisi, stood at the crossroads of a new emerging spirituality.

Hayes brings to life Bonaventure's spirituality in the thirteenth century at the height of the development of medieval mysticism - a period of tension and transition in the realm of theology and spirituality.

Hayes describes how this dialectical style of theological development united the Franciscan love of Christ's humanity with the tradition of intellectual theology. These two paths converged in the work of Bonaventure and created a form of wisdom theology.
