Itty bitty book of itty bitty stories.,

This review is from: B Is for Bondage (Erotic Alphabet) (Paperback)
My first reaction "out-of-the-box"? This thing is -tiny-. Ignoring the intro, and the "about the author" section, the book is 128 pages of text (not 144), containing 12 very short stories. The average length of a story is a hair under 10 pages, (the shortest being 4.5 pages, the longest being 14). They run the gambit from straight, to gay and lesbian stories, most contain bondage, some discipline, and of course, some sex. I wouldn't want to ruin it for you if you think you might be interested in this book, but there are many themes, spices & pickles to the stories. Many show intelligence, some are thought-provoking, and some even funny. However, the overall quality is comparable (if not even slightly less impressive) than what can be found on the internet. I have found in general, stories in the various newsgroups, and at free and public supported websites to be of a higher quality. It's -sort- of cute, but not worth the price.

Alison Tyler's Second Erotic Alphabet Collection,

This review is from: B Is for Bondage (Erotic Alphabet) (Paperback)
Alison Tyler, an author herself, has a pretty strong hand as an editor in this collection of erotic stories. Part of her thematic Alphabet of Erotica, B is for Bondage takes on, well, bondage. Fantasies of control, of tying people up...
It's a decent collection of stories, although I don't think its quite as strong as other volumes in this series. The sexual content in the stories didn't quite register as hot for me as some of the other stories I've read in volumes that Ms. Tyler has published. Was it the mix of authors? Was it that the authors didn't take as many chances as in other volumes? I don't know. The sexual content can be described as playful. This is no bad thing, but I think its a bit *too* playful, at the detriment of the story collection as a collection of erotica. I did find a couple of stories hot (Shanna Germain's story, in particular), but for me the collection did not have that high of a percentage of hits as other volumes in the series, or other volumes that she has edited. Sorry, Alison. |
