Karat Gold Bonded™
As the gold price has escalated, the nation’s largest gold jewelry manufacturer developed a beautiful collection of bonded karat gold and silver pieces that includes bangles, chains, bracelets, fashionable earrings and pendants. New materials, new techniques, and an aggressive new mantra to find affordable precious metal products have led to a blend of innovation and a quest for quality. Karat Gold Bonded™ is the standard for full-precious, affordable, and quality product.
What is bonded gold jewelry?
BONDED describes jewelry that is composed of a sheet of karat gold, which is mechanically affixed over a sterling silver core. The 10 or 14-karat gold layer is bonded to the sterling silver by a Proprietary Technology of mechanical bonding that uses heat and pressure to form a uniform metallurgical bond changing the two materials into one. Depending on the design, the layer of silver may or may not be visible. All bonded product will have a metal stamp disclosing the fraction of karat gold and sterling silver.
Why is bonded better?
The sterling silver core is covered with a permanent layer of 14 or 10k gold that is not removable. The gold thickness in bonded product is greater than gold-plated product and the gold layer will not wear off as is possible with gold-plated product. Bonded product is very durable and long-lasting if cared for properly.
How to care for you bonded gold jewelry:
External surfaces of bonded jewelry are essentially karat gold, and usually everything that is seen or touched is true karat gold. Therefore, to care for Karat Gold BondedTM Jewelry, use the similar processes, as with normal karat gold jewelry, utilizing gold jewelry cleaner and a soft polishing cloth.
The Karat Gold Bonded Jewelry collection by Amazon.com includes necklaces in many motifs: hearts, circles, crosses, lariat bead necklaces and station crystal beads with matching crystal drop bead earrings. There are anklets in several styles and an exclusive spiral ring that is sure to add sparkle and elegance to anyone’s jewelry wardrobe. This assortment is constantly expanding, as we strive to offer something for every customer’s unique style and taste.
“Karat Gold Bonded-the modern approach to our favorite gold pieces”
The purity of gold is measured in karats. Pure gold measures 24 karats but is too soft in this state to be used effectively in jewelry. So it is alloyed with other metals--silver, copper, nickel, and zinc--to increase its strength and durability. Common measurements once the alloy is added are 18 karat (75% gold), 14 karat (58%), and 10 karat (47.7%). In the United States, the legal karat limit for the metal to still be considered gold is 10 karats. A higher karat measurement in gold content indicates a greater value of the jewelry piece. Gold jewelry should always be stamped with the karat mark, either 18k, 750 (European marking for 18k), 14k, 585 (European marking for 14k), or 10k. In addition, to assure its quality, the piece should be stamped with the manufacturer's trademark or country of origin.
The color of gold may vary based off of the type of metal alloy included and the percentage of the metal alloy used. Most commonly, gold is available in yellow, white and rose coloring.
Yellow gold is the most common color and is usually alloyed with silver and copper. Yellow and white gold are similar in strength and malleability, making them perfect for jewelry that is worn daily.
White gold is alloyed with nickel, copper, and zinc--and while it looks similar to platinum, it has vastly different properties.
Rose-colored gold is alloyed with copper and is often used to accent white or yellow gold. The saturation of color varies from piece to piece and according to gold content.
Caring For Your Gold Jewelry
To keep gold shining and scratch-free, avoid contact with chlorine and other harsh chemicals. Do not wear jewelry during rough work and be sure to store it in a fabric-lined jewelry box or pouch. To clean gold jewelry, use warm water, a mild soap, and a soft bristled brush, if needed.
