A complete online approach to trading bonds
Although online bond trading began primarily for institutions, this has changed as individual investors seek a wider range of online financial opportunities. E-Bonds: The Definitive Guide to the Online Bond Market provides a comprehensive overview of the marketplace, and identifies key players and emerging strategies for buying bonds online. Readers will walk through the entire transaction process for each of the primary platforms with the help of expert analysts, and learn more about accessing and trading bonds online through anecdotal examples, case studies, and perspectives from experienced online bond traders. Covering all fixed income instruments available to investors, E-Bonds is a valuable reference for anyone looking to trade bonds over the Internet.
Jake Wengroff (New York, NY) is an independent financial communications consultant and contributor to a number of financial publications including CFO magazine. Wengroff was formerly vice president of corporate marketing for Bear Stearns, where he worked on the firm's venture funds.

Editorial Reviews

Review

“…Informative, well laid out and easy to read-this is a good weekend read…a very good overview of the market place and essential bond basics…”(Financial Adviser, 24 April 2003)

From the Inside Flap

While the words Internet (the ever-evolving domain of the wild and adventurous maverick) and bonds (the unglamorous, capital-raising instrument of the U.S. government, municipalities, and corporations) may seem like an unlikely pair, in reality they are perfect partners-both appeal to people interested in accessibility and efficiency. After years of being labeled "too complicated" for the individual investor to understand, the bond market has been made easier to navigate, thanks in part to the Internet.

If you are eager to learn just how easy it is to research and invest in bonds online, E-Bonds: An Introduction to the Online Bond Market will show you how. This concise, information-packed book provides a comprehensive overview of the marketplace and delivers the basic, yet essential facts you need to succeed in the online bond arena.

E-Bonds opens with a quick refresher course on bonds. You'll learn the meaning of common bond terms such as indenture, maturity, and par value. You'll also be introduced to some of the basic types of bonds, including U.S. treasury, federal agency, municipal, and corporate bonds. Building on this foundation, E-Bonds shows you how the online bond industry works, discusses the issues you should consider before you start your journey-bond returns, risks, ratings, and tax consequences-and reveals the best Web sites to visit for free bond information including: live bond market commentary, in-depth bond research, bond calculators, and much more.

After a thorough discussion of the online bond arena, E-Bonds reveals specific brokerage Web sites that will allow you to get the best selection of bonds at the best available prices. You'll learn how to purchase and sell a variety of bonds with confidence and caution-from "munis" and treasuries to agencies and corporates. You'll even find out how to participate in bond mutual funds through the Internet. Filled with expert analysis and invaluable insights, this one-of-a-kind reference will put you in the best position possible to excel in the online bond market.

In today's financial environment, time and money are two of the most precious commodities. Using the free resources of the Internet to research and trade bonds will help you save both. Whether you're looking for a reliable broker or attempting to execute a transaction, E-Bonds is the best way to understand and invest in the online bond markets.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, January 3, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: E-Bonds (Hardcover)
I've read this book and was disappointed. There was no new light shed on the bond market, it was simply a regurgitation of what I've read anywhere else, everywhere else. The author I suppose is a serviceable writer, not stellar by any means, but there's nothing in this book that you can't learn anywhere else for free.
