Every song has something to offer. One of the most balanced CDs produced. Definitely one of my favorites!

Max Carl saved the album,

Max Carl is awesome. Sometimes it gets harder for me to listen to the old 38 special because of this album. I'm only talking about the tunes with Max on vox. Donnie songs are very boring. Strength in Numbers is still a favorite because most of the songs are sung by Don Barnes and man he can play lead so good too. I wish Don and Max can play together. That would be the greatest 38 special album.

Expremely Underrated,

I have all of 38 Specials' music, I have been a fan of theirs since the beginning. And this is still my favorite CD of all. I love all their music but this remains my favorite. I'm surprised it didn't get more radio time and more notariety. Whatever the price if you like southern rock (or even if you don't) this is money well spent.

You Must Listen To This A Couple Of Times Before It Hits You,

I bought this cd in a cutout section , listened to it once or twice & forgot about it. 5 years later it's one of my favorite cds!! The title track is just fantastic,to the great work on drums, guitar, the vocals rival anything 38 special has done, and the WORDS of this song are AMAZING!!

Great 90s Southern AOR CD,

It's axiomatic that .38 Special were never in a class with the Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Marshall Tucker Band, or the Outlaws, yet all of their albums (except DRIVETRAIN) had great songs on them and deserve 5 stars. BONE AGAINST STEEL is no exception. It's got some not-so-great songs (you need friends in order to be able to tolerate "Last Thing I Ever Do"), but "The Sound Of Your Voice" (the album's biggest hit); "Rebel To Rebel"; and the title song more than make up for whatever shortcomings the CD may have. This was the best AOR album released in 1991, but unfortunately, with Guns 'N' Roses, Skid Row, Nirvana, and Pearl Jam being the flavors du jour at the time, it had no chance of being as big a hit as it deserved to be.

Not Bad But Something Is Amiss,
By susumu-5 (Japan) - See all my reviews

Well, Bone Against Steel was not a bad album. After listening to excellent albums Strength in Numbers and Rock'N Roll Strategy, however, I feel something is missing. Some songs are good such as You Definitely Got Me, Title Track, You'll Be The Dam... ,Don't Wanna Get It Dirty, Burning Bridges, treasure. But reflecting the time when good rock becoming downhill, even them stop short of glares they used to have. But I can't blame them. The tide was getting unfavorable for them... Glad that they could survive the dark ages at all....

this is great because it features Max Carl (Gronenthal)s vocals. Buy it. Fantastic vocals and music.

38 Special make arena rock with a slight southern twinge. It's not exactly the most appealing form of rock, and this particular album is not even a very good one by 38 Special standards. An arena rock album should at least have hooks, then it could be considered a guilty pleasure, there are none here. Fans of the band should stick to ROCK N ROLL STRATEGY or SPECIAL FORCES; casual fans would be better off with a comp. Best tracks are `Rebel To Rebel' and the title track.
