A Real Review (2.5 Stars),
By
This review is from: Bone Brothers (Audio CD)
Truth be told, this album isn't completely wack. Is it dangerously close? Yes. But two things keep this album from being wack: 1)decent (not great) production and 2)Krayzie Bone. If it wasn't for those two things, this album would be a certified drink coaster.
There are plenty of reasons for why I think this album is mediocre. Apparently, Bizzy Bone has completely forgotten how to rhyme. Layzie Bone still has an ill flow, but he's not saying anything worth hearing. Just about every member of Bone has been rapping about "haters", backstabbers, and weed since they came out. It's time they update their content. Also, too many of the songs suffer from drowsy production and lame hooks. "D*ck Rider" would be a perfect example because the beat is weak, the hook is awful, and it doesn't really make sense if you listen to it. There are some decent joints to be found though. "What's Friends" is cool if you can get past Bizzy's inability to stay on beat. The sad thing is the fact that the best moment of the entire album only lasts for 32 seconds. "Felicia Skit" should've been stretched into an entire song. "Hip Hop Baby" has a nice beat to it and Lay, Kray, and Biz all hold their own. "Real Life" is another decent track where Treach (from Naughty By Nature) and Krayzie make strong appearances. Honestly, the only good songs are the ones with Krayzie Bone on them, and not even all of those are good. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I'm a Krayzie Bone super fan. In fact, I always thought Bizzy and Layzie were the two illest members of Bone.....until I heard this album. I can't really reccomend this to anyone. I guess if you're a longtime fan of the Bone/Mo Thugs family then I guess you'd have to get this to complete the collection, but I can't see anyone else buying this. Buy at your own risk. I reccomend downloading it and testing it out first. Standout tracks: Real Life feat. Krayzie Bone & Treach, Felicia Skit (My Favorite), What's Friends feat. Krayzie Bone, Need Your Body feat. Krayzie Bone & Kareem, Hip Hop Baby feat. Krayzie Bone, and Give It To Me feat. Felicia Howse

"I'M COUNTING ON U BONE",
By Rocks In My Socks (Cleveland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bone Brothers (Audio CD)
I'm from Cleveland, so of course I'm gonna rep Bone Thugs. However, after E. 1999 Eternal, it was curtains for them... Don't get me wrong, "The Art of War" was a good album--just not their best. It was overly ambitious and should have been consolidated into a single disc. With albums such as "Creepin On Ah Come Up" and "E. 1999 Eternal," it's easy to see why Bone is considered by many to be the best rap group of all time. I completely agree, and this is why it saddens me to witness Bone being diminshed to nothing more than has-beens. What the f%$# is up with this album anyways? Who the hell wants to hear only half the group??--especially without DJ U-Neek! I recently read in a Murder Dog interview with Krayzie that Dre is interested in working with them--but ONLY THE ENTIRE GROUP--no more solo bull****!! So...I'm counting on u Bone 2 pull yourselves 2gether and put Cleveland back on the map...

Not Even Close,
By Denise Trotter (Rocky Mount, VA) - See all my reviews

The reviewer below me has it all wrong. The problem with this album is the fact that the old Bone flow has disappeared. Most of us were looking for that high speed flow and didn't get it. If you listen to the album, you can understand every word. That wasn't the case before. Bizzy was probably the fastest rapper in the group, but now his flow is pedestrian. Just thought I'd clear that up. If you don't believe me, take a listen for yourself.
Peace

IT DOESNT EVEN PHASE ME TO HEAR SO MANY NEGATIVE REVIEWS BECAUSE MOST OF THE PEOPLE WHO REVIEWIN THIS CD DONT KNOW THEIR ASS FROM A HOLE IN THE GROUND. THEY WRITE THEIR REVIEW WHILE LISTENING TO THE NEW LUDACRIS OR MARIO CD. ITS ALL GOOD, I BE CHILLIN LOVIN EVERY MINUTE OF THIS BRAND NEW BONE CD. REAL FANS OF BONE LOVE BONE, NOT BECAUSE "THEY'RE BONE", BUT BECAUSE BONE HAS CONSISTENTLY PUT OUT ALBUMS THAT NO ONE CAN TOUCH. FROM ENTERPRISE TO BROTHERS, BONE HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE STANDARD OF HIP HOP. LISTEN TO THE LYRICS, LISTEN TO THE TALENT, LISTEN TO THE BONE BROTHERS AND YOU'LL KNOW ITS SOMETHIN'S SPECIAL. WHO CAN SAY THEY AINT HAPPY TO SEE BIZZY BACK IN THA BONE? I GUESS BONE IS JUST A WORLD YOU GET CAUGHT UP IN, AT LEAST FOR ME, MUSIC IS BONE.

The Hype was Right: Bone Brothers is an Excellent New Sound,
By
This review is from: Bone Brothers (Audio CD)
Bone Thugs N Harmony members Layzie and Bizzy (with huge contributions from Krayzie) deliver an excellent album with a vast array of sounds, in route to living up to the hype that this "Bone Brothers" project received. The album was supposed to be the best Bone album in quite a while, and it is. Almost every song is at least solid, but most are good, or great. I will run down the tracklist:
1. Intro - Simple and short. Bone has had much better intros, but this is no reason to get worried. 2. Like Me -*****- Another song about how Bone is trendsetting, esp in the rap game. Talks about how everyone else wants to look, rap and act like Bone. Fresh, original beat w/good raps (bizzy and layzie trade versus) and a pretty good chorus. 3. What's Friends -*****- Krayzie sets the tone right of the bat w/a quick, hard verse. The chorus is O.K. - "I cant take no more friens, cuz they always end up backstabbing in the end." Overall a good, hard song. 4. D%%K Rider -****- Another fresh beat, completely different from the first two. Nice chorus. Raps could be faster at times, but still solid. 5. No Rules -**- I tend to enjoy Mo Thug contributions more when they had additional harmony, on "Thug Devotion." and others. I can only describe the Mo Thugs contributions here as mediocre. 6. Felicia skit - short, harmonious skit that leads nicely into the next track. 7. Give it To Me -****- Slow, layed back track with Layzies wife Felicia, who sings the chorus. "I never fall in love, married to Bone Thugs," raps Bizzy. Felicia is always a good addition to Bone songs. 8. Need Your Body -*****- One of the songs leaked before the relase of this album, it is one of the best songs on the album. Another different, original beat and chorus. Krayzie has a great flowing, harmonious verse to start things off about how he is a better lover than anyone else. Bizzy and Layzie follow w/ equal output. 9. Complicated -**- Like "No Rules," it lacks an original, creative beat. The raps of the Outlaws are subpar. At about the 2:00 mark, Layzie resuces the song with a great verse. 10. Hip Hop Baby -*****- The other leaked song, but also one of the best songs. Creative beat, and great lyrics. The thugs talk about their love for all types of music, not just hip hop. Chorus compliments the song. (I was forunate enough to be at the NYC show at BB Kings where part of this video was shot - I was front row, and hope to be in it). 11. Real Life -*****- Its tough to say after only a few listens, but this is likely one of the top 1 or 2 songs on the album. The Thugs talk about how money makes them lose site of other things in life. Excellent beat and raps, and Bizzy and Layzie provide which is without doubt the best chorus on the album. Treach contributes a worthy, fast paced verse that is a nice addition to the song. Krayzie does his thing, contributing which is always one of the best versus. Bizzy's is undoubtably the highlight verse, as he displays his speed and versatility which is often, especially lately, gone unnoticed. 12.Blow You Away -****-A fairly unoriginal beat (average) is made up for with three good verses from Bizzy, Layzie and Skano. 13. Str8 Ridaz -*****- Original, hard beat with hard versus. Nice chorus again-this time solely from Bizzy. (I thought some of the choruses on this album were some of the best improvements from recent Bone efforts). Krayzies verse is just excellent, one of verses on the album. 14. Everyday -*****- I have mixed feelings about this song. This song was leaked a long time ago, first as a clip and then full, but in both the leaked versions, the beat was slightly different. I liked the original beat better than this album one, but regardless, what was a five star song for me is still a five star song. I just dont understand why they decided to change it. Overall, this album is excellent. There are no terrible songs, and only 2 or 3 are average and welcome the urgency to move forward. 5 or 6 are excellent. The choruses are an improvement from recent Bone albums. Bizzy shows off some of his best stuff in a while. Layzie continues to shine, and Krayzie's contributions to this album made the world of a difference. "Bone Brothers" introduces several new Bone sounds and is a continuation of Bone's efforts to be one of the most trendsetting hip hop groups out there.

Finally!!!,

No matter what you think about this album, you have to be lovin the fact that these guys are back rappin together and off ruthless records. Finally there starting to climb out of that big mess and now looks like there slowly comin back together and making a great album. It isnt the old bone with that fast pace hard beat thug original music but, this is still good hip hop music. I say hip hop because thats what separates this album from there past hard stuff. There other albums are more rap music as this one is more on the side of hip hop style ( for those of you who know what im sayin ). Its hard for loyal old school bone fans like myself to feel this album. But if you get away from only wanting to hear there old sound and take time to listen and enjoy this album for what is youll see its really a solid cd. Not one bad song on here.
Intro- its ok i guess, just Layzie flexing his ego Like Me- 8.0 nice beat, talks about how people want to be like them and layzie and bizzy roll with the track like only bone can, not my favorite but solid none the less Whats Friends- 10. Damn I love this song, Krayzie starts it off right and Bizzy starts his verse with a little singing(chorus of str8 ridaz) and brakes the track down, short but sweet. Plus the track is a smooth head bopper. My Fav. Di** Rider- 8.0 not a bad song, one of the harder tracks on the album. just feel like theat they could have done better with it. No Rules- 7.0 its O.K., its just no "THug Devotion" but still glad to see MO thugs on the cd Felicia skit- good intro to next track i guess and love Falicia's voice Gve it to me- 9.0 nice layed back R&B track and as always Felicia dose a great job on it. Need Your Body- 9.5 real smooth track (leaked track) another R&B vibe to it. Complicated-9.0 I like this track even though its simple it has that violin sound i like. Outlaws do an alright job i could just go with out the lil john wanna be Hip Hop Baby- 9.5 I think there making a vidio for this one and its a nice song and good lyrics. It just seems a little to poppy and mainstreem to me. Talks about how they like all kinds of music (give them more respect for that) but love hip hop. A leaked song that you may have heard already Real Life- 10 My other favorite, a long but real solid song. Love Treach's verse, The song just flows and has a great chorus. Talkes abot how money gets a hold of you. Blow You Away- 7.0 least favorite song but isnt bad. Solid verses by all, its just that beat is a little to basic Str8 Ridaz- 8.5 not big on the track but this is one of the other harder tracks with hard verses (rimined me of some old bone we love). Everyday-9.5 great ending to the album,(another leaked song but with a different beat) nice chorus buy Krayzie and with all the thugs on it makes this music to my ears. So overall a great cd that any hip hop fan should get especialy bone fans. Even though it isnt there hard classic master peaces they did back in the day its still a high quality album which is practecly a bone thugs n harmony cd. Having them back together and off ruthless records is the best thing to happen to hip hop, looks like bone is going to be back in the game. They have loyal fans and now with this album, should makes some new ones that couldn't keep up with the old flows or didnt like it. This cd is more mainstreem friendly and a real hip hop feal to it. Make no mistake this is still Bone Thugs N Harmony, just a little softer and slower so dont hate old bone fans just appreciate that there back. The only thing that i have to say is PLEASE BRING BACK DJ UNEEK, he was, as fare as im concerned the 6th dawg of Bone. They will not be quite the same with out his prodction. Some of the best tracks ever in the game. Just add Flesh and Bone will slap this poppy rap we got now with some real,(no bling happy cheese crap we got now) hard hitting, melody harmony we been missing.
