From the Author

Bone Deep was one of the first books I wrote (after the co-written Finding Home) and is still one of my most popular stories. Who doesn't love reading about an outcast finding a home at last? Who hasn't felt like an outsider at some point in their life? The story speaks to us all, I think. An "unloveable" person finding love at last is my favorite one to tell, and you'll see many variations of the theme in my books. Hope you read and enjoy Bone Deep, and if you do, you might check out A Hearing Heart or Captive Bride.

More About the Author

NY Times and USA Today Bestselling Author

I began telling stories as a child. Whenever there was a sleepover, I was the designated ghost tale teller. I still have a story printed on yellow legal paper in second grade about a ghost, a witch and a talking cat.

I enjoy reading stories about people damaged by life who find healing with a like-minded soul. When I couldn't find enough books to suit my taste, I began to write them.

This book was erotic and sexy with the simplicity that when both characters, Tom and Sarah locked eyes even that became sexy! Describing how Tom walked "from behind the curtain in a loin cloth, sat down and draped a knee over the arm of the chair, exposing his inner thigh up to his groin".(that was sexy!) The sadness and lonliness in Sarah's heart after the death of her husband in the war coupled with the horrific, sad and frightening life and beautiful body of Tom made a wonderful story! It was like nitroglycerine and a fuse coming together - you had an explosive, sexual and erotic coming together of 2 people who needed one another. Although Tom was created to be a freak in a carnival and to the other people who met him when he escaped - only Sarah saw the beauty of his body. Everything was so well described by the author I found myself trying to slow down reading this book in order to savor every word! This story was so different - yet the author captured the sorrow, the need, the abuse of Tom, and the sexual want in Sarah that was awakened by merely being in Tom's presence, in the simplest of dialogue that left me wanting more, and more! It was a fabulous and erotic story!

Once in a while a special book comes along that will touch your heart with it's poignancy and tenderness. Bone Deep is such a book for me.

It's the story of two lonely people who find each other and despite all obstacles, triumph in their love for each other.

Sarah Cassidy is a young widow whose husband was killed during WWII. While at the local carnival one evening she was talked into going into the freak show by her friends. There she saw Tom the tatooed man and felt a very puzzling yet instant attraction to him.

The next day he turns up in her barn and right away she sees past his outward appearance and into the gentle soul that he is. But together can they overcome the predjudice of the small town she resides in?

I loved the setting of this book, it's very unusual and refreshing. Sarah makes a wonderful heroine, lonely and somewhat reluctant to get involved with Tom,yet very protective of him and very aware of what people will think. Tom is a hero that lingers long after you close the last page. Gentle yet strong and damaged against his will, it's wonderful reading about his coming out of himself and slowly gaining confidence after being held a prisoner all his life.

This book has the same sort of feel as another one of my favourite books, Morning Glory by Lavryle Spencer.

I can't recommend it highly enough

The writing is vey simple, and for being billed as an erotic romance there is nothing overly erotic in Bone Deep, love scenes, yes, but not what you'd expect. The story and the love built between the main characters is what makes this a beautiful read. The story of a tatooed man, a modern (ala 1940's) woman, and a biased farm community is well crafted. Think shades of HBO's Carnival and combine it with grandma's girl power post war life and add a twist of bible belt small community. Bone Deep is definetly worth reading if you get your hands on it.

Bone Deep is the love story of how a war widow named Sarah falls in love with the Tattooed Man from a traveling carnival amongst typical 1940's small town prejudices for anyone that is different. BD is a tidy little book and a fast pace read that for the most part I enjoyed. The plot only spans 2 weeks and is told from Sarah's POV which was good and bad. The good first...Sarah has been in a rut ever since her husband died in WWII, the reader gets to know Sarah's fears, doubts and how she has struggled alone since her husbands death. We also experience the fighter in Sarah, a person that is willing to give her all to have the happiness she deserves even if it means she will be an outcast in her community for daring to love where her heart leads her. The lovers will have to overcome many obstacles before they can have their HEA. By the end of the book they are half way there and you just know a bright future is in the cards for them.

Now let's talk about the bad....Tom the Tattooed Man, I love this guy, how the author could reduce him to monosyllable responses almost throughout the entire book is beyond me. He was like Pandora's box just waiting to be opened so all his secrets could spill out. But the author made the decision to keep the lid closed except for very little insight into what Tom was thinking as he experience the prejudices of the towns people, or his inner thoughts and feelings as he was falling in love with Sarah. I applaud the author for not dwelling on his tortured childhood, the few references made to it was enough for the reader to use their imagination to fill in the blanks. But come on this is a romance between 2 people therefore I want to know what both parties are thinking and feeling as they fall in love. I thought this type of writing was over and done with in the 80's. If it was not for the steamy sex scenes this book would have read like a HP from the 80's. Which leads me to my next question, why did this book cost $12?

Bone Deep is one of those books that I don't think I would have picked up without a recommendation from one of my followers. This weekend I was in a bit of a book funk and two little birdies told me I should give this one a try. I am so so glad that I did! It was a BEAUTIFUL love story!

This is a unique and heartwarming tale of unconventional romance. My heart broke for Tom; he had endured a life of abuse and spent his adult life on display like an animal. I loved Sarah because she was able to look past Tom's appearance and background and help him to heal and move on with life. It truly was one of the most exquisite love stories I have picked up in a long time.

I instantly loved Sarah because she did not live her life centered on what others thought or would think. As a young widow, she was independent, spunky and I would say she had a wild streak for the time period. When she first sees Tom on display at the carnival, she sees him differently than others and there is something about him that she cannot take her eyes off of. She didn't just like him because he was different or dangerous; she felt some strange, unexplained connection. She did not fear him.

Tom is one of those male characters that will forever be in my heart. He was not an arrogant alpha male by any means but he was a sweet, kind, unique man who I am still thinking about days later. Listening to his story, his hopes and his dreams made my heart lurch. He carries around a magazine picture of a family and creates a whole story about their lives which he shares with Sarah. It shows how much he has missed out on in life and was one of the saddest moments in the book. With Sarah, he must learn to accept that he is beautiful and worthy of love.
