Book Description

March 1, 2001
It is 1878 and Captain John Paley Dawkins, an English amateur palaeontologist, has staked his meagre inheritance upon an expedition to find a pterodactyl, set up by geologist Sheldon Prescott. Wary of Prescott's wilful daughter Lilian, they are soon forced together in a life-threatening quest.

“Fascinating and original… unforgettable.” -- SUNDAY TELEGRAPH --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From the Publisher

1878. The golden days of dinosaur discoveries. In the still–Wild West, fossils of monstrous size are being uncovered by America’s two greatest bone hunters, Professors Marsh and Cope. Caught in the bitterest of feuds, their rivals steal or destroy each other’s findings, clashing murderously in the treacherous Wyoming Badlands. Back in New York, Marsh and Cope are sniffing out tantalizing rumors of the ultimate find. Also lured by the rumors are enigmatic English scientist Captain Dawkins and Miss Lilian Prescott, a naïve but willful heiress. Drawn into a web of corruption and murder, they are forced on a desperate hunt for a cache of mysterious fossils — a quest filled with danger, adventure, and extraordinary discoveries. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

1.0 out of 5 stars Probably the worst book I have ever read, October 25, 2007
By
This review is from: The Bone Hunter (Paperback)
I respect books and I have a large collection. In my opinion the worst that can be done to a book is to burn it. I struggled to the end of this poorly-written, inane, boring, pathetic nonsense and went into my garden and set it down. I placed two fire lighters on the cover and lit it. Astonishingly it only took a few minutes for it to turn to ashes.
