Book Description

June 2006
Dr. Temperance Brennan, a highly skilled forensic anthropologist who works at the Jeffersonian Institution and writes novels as a sideline, has an uncanny ability to read clues left behind in a victim's bones. Law enforcement calls upon her to assist with murder investigations when the standard methods of identifying a body are useless. Brennan often finds herself partnered with special investigator Seely Booth of the FBI's Homicide Investigation Unit. Booth, a former Army sniper who mistrusts science and scientists, believes the key to solving crimes lies in discovering the truth from good old-fashioned detective work. Brennan's equally brilliant colleagues at the Jeffersonian's Medico-Legal Lab include: earthy and bawdy Angela Montenegro, who's created a unique way to render an original crime scene in a 3-D computer image; Brennan's assistant, Zack Addy, a young prodigy whose genius IQ actually gets in the way of finishing any of the several doctorates he's begun; "the bug guy" Dr. Jack Hodgins, who's an expert on insects, spores and minerals, but conspiracy is his hobby; and Brennan's boss, the imposing lab director Dr. Daniel Goodman. "We hope my readers will realize that it's another manifestation of Tempe, and that they are in on this inside joke" says the real Reichs.

More About the Author

Kathy Reichs, like her fictional creation, Temperance Brennan, is forensic anthropologist for the province of Quebec. She is Vice President of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, serves on the Canadian National Police Services Advisory Council, and is one of only fifty-six forensic anthropologists certified by the American Board of Forensic Anthropology. A professor of anthropology at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Dr. Reichs now divides her time between Charlotte and Montreal. Deja Dead, her debut novel, brought her fame when it became a New York Times bestseller and won the 1997 Ellis Award for Best First Novel. In 2007 Break No Bones was short- listed for the Ellis Award for Best Novel. Kathy Reichs is the inspiration for the television drama Bones; her latest novel featuring Temperance Brennan is Devil Bones. Her newest release, 206 Bones, is due out in the summer of 2009

5.0 out of 5 stars Make your bones, get this book, August 20, 2006

I have been a fan of Collins for many years. His Heller novels always thrilled and entertained. He also had written many screenplay novelizations, so its natural to do some TV also. I like the show this is based on and also the novels the show is based on. There is a vast difference between the writings of Kathy Reich and this novel. Not better nor worse, just different. Collins captures the feel of the show with no problem and actually fleshes out the characters (no pun intended) in a way TV cannot. If you enjoy the show or have never seen it, you will find this a good read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dynamic Series - Lackluster Novel, January 25, 2008
By
This review is from: Bones: Buried Deep (Paperback)
Right away the novel disappointed me. The author is supposed to be writing about characters on the hit Fox series "Bones." Yet the man can't even get David Boreanaz' eye color right. They are black/brown, not piercing blue. For me, someone who watched "Bones" and consequently bought the book because of Boreanaz, that pretty much put a damper on what proved to be a fairly lackluster novel. Its all right if the cases portrayed are easy to figure out, because its the character dynamic that carries the show. Sadly, the book also lacked that connection between the characters, making reading this book somewhat a chore. Maybe after the author watches several episodes of the series, he'll be better able to capture the characters next time ... and maybe get their eye colors right.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worse Novelization Ever, January 14, 2008
This review is from: Bones: Buried Deep (Paperback)
For fans of "Bones," this book will be a horrendous disappointment. It is so badly written that it amazes me that the author was tapped to do this--maybe he came cheap? The pathetic author cannot even find words to describe something as simple as clothing, since he repeats those descriptions over and over and over. The author is obviously ignorant of forensics because there are NONE covered in the book. There are glaring errors such as Booth's blue eyes and Zach Addy's glasses which makes me question whether the author has ever even seen "Bones." I can only hope that the PTB pick a better author for the next novel.
