About the Author

Kathy Reichs, like her character Dr. Temperance Brennan, is a forensic anthropologist, formerly for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in North Carolina and currently for the Laboratoire de sciences judiciaires et de médecine légale for the province of Quebec. A professor in the department of anthropology at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte, she is one of only ninety-nine forensic anthropologists ever certified by the American Board of Forensic Anthropology. Reichs’s first book, Déjà Dead, catapulted her to fame when it became a New York Times bestseller and won the 1997 Arthur Ellis Award for Best First Novel. Her latest Temperance Brennan novel, Bones of the Lost, was an instant New York Times bestseller. Her website is KathyReichs.com.

Linda Emond's film credits include Stop Loss, North Country, and Across the Universe. Television credits include The Sopranos, all four Law & Orders, and American Experience: John & Abigail Adams. On Broadway she has performed in 1776 and Life x 3 (Tony nomination & Outer Critics Circle Award) and Off-Broadway in Tony Kushner's Homebody/Kabul (Obie & Lucille Lortel Awards).

More About the Author

Kathy Reichs, like her fictional creation, Temperance Brennan, is forensic anthropologist for the province of Quebec. She is Vice President of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, serves on the Canadian National Police Services Advisory Council, and is one of only fifty-six forensic anthropologists certified by the American Board of Forensic Anthropology. A professor of anthropology at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Dr. Reichs now divides her time between Charlotte and Montreal. Deja Dead, her debut novel, brought her fame when it became a New York Times bestseller and won the 1997 Ellis Award for Best First Novel. In 2007 Break No Bones was short- listed for the Ellis Award for Best Novel. Kathy Reichs is the inspiration for the television drama Bones; her latest novel featuring Temperance Brennan is Devil Bones. Her newest release, 206 Bones, is due out in the summer of 2009

Bones in her Pocket is a short story available on Kindle in the Temperance Brennan series by American author, Kathy Reichs. Tempe is called out to an Artists Colony at Mountain Island Lake in North Carolina, where a bag of bones has washed up. Tempe assumed that this is part of the corpse belonging to some leg bones she has examined, until she finds this corpse already has legs. Masses of tiny bones accompanying the skeleton add an element of intrigue. This little story has a missing Environmental Sciences student, a crazy-sounding, arrogant environmental protestor, a lecherous lecturer and a gossipy museum volunteer. Tempe gives us interesting tidbits on under water decomps and manages to get herself into hot water. Add the sneak peek at the next Tempe Bennan novel, Bones of the Lost, and this Kindle offering is well worth the price.

... at first one big puzzle for Dr Tempe Brennan, forensic anthropologist.

When our heroine is called into a private owned retiring place for artists of all kind, she hopes to find some more pieces of one John Doe MCMA-422-13 than the fibula, tibia and two vertebre she has in her cell at her lab in Charlotte/North-Carolina.
But at Mountain Island Lake which has increased in the last week over 15 feet she finds a bag. And in the bag a corpse held together by the cloths.
No way this was Mr Tibia Fibula.
So now she has a female dead person whose remains fit the description of a missing girl called Edith Blanckenship, who was a student helping in her spare time at a center for injured raptors like owls, falcons, bald eagles - the whole range of those kind of birds.

But behind the disappearance of Edith Dr. Tempe Brennan aka Bones will find a much more gruesome secret. And she can only with a lot of luck avoid to become a victim herself...

A good, fast-paced read for all the friends and lovers of "Bones" with a very sad but also very interesting and all-tied-up ending. And once more me and some other readers will certainly ask ourselves where our world is bound to end...

As a bonus "Bones In Her Pocket" also gives the readers the first chance to take a look at the opening chapters of Kathy's new thriller,Bones of the Lost: A Temperance Brennan Novel, coming out on August, 15.
Which I personally will buy for sure!

Kudos to Kathy Reich for bringing to light the horror of puppy mills! I was listening to "Bones in her Pocket" (I listen to books while I work) and almost jumped up from my loom to cheer! She wrote such a vivid, and, sadly, accurate depiction of these horror-houses!
It's hard to explain to most people how terrible this is. I was also dismayed to learn that some of the worst offenders in this matter are Amish! I've been working with animal-rescue for some time now and it breaks you heart several times a day!
I enjoyed the novelette itself immensely, but, stumbling over the part about the puppy-mill kind of made my day!
The story is well-crafted, as usual, and I really enjoy the insights into the procedures and difficulties of Ms Reich's field.
I hope Ms Reich can "sneak in" some more such "reality checks."

A short taster of the Tempe Brennan series that includes the first chapter of Bones of the Lost: A Temperance Brennan Novel at the end.
The taster session will give any new readers a quick insight into the series.
For hardcore fans it is more of a quick and hurried bite.
Tempe is called out to examine bones that turn out to contain more than she expected.
I would recommend a full length novel for a true Tempe experience.
I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley.

Her Saturday off, ruined by an early morning call to investigate a bag, odorous and bulging and discovered at Mountain Island Lake in the foothills of North Carolina, meant Dr Temperance Brennan was now on her way with a silent local policeman, plus the owner of the property, to pick up said bag. A few weeks prior, unidentifiable human bones had been found in the same area, and Tempe needed to see if there was a connection.

But when she began her investigation on the contents at her lab, she was shocked to see that she had been wrong in her assumption. The original find showed older bones which proved to be male; the current find was definitely not what she thought it would be. With a missing student, Edith Blakenship, a crazy eco-lover by the name of Herman Blount, a raptor centre, the Hell's Angels bikers, plus the police all in a tangled mix, Tempe was up to her neck in this one!

What a great short story by Kathy Reichs! Even though only around 60 pages, the plot doesn't feel rushed or cut short at all, with the same furious pace and gripping nature as a full length book. There is a taster for her next book, due out in August, "Bones of the Lost" at the end of this one as well.

I have no hesitation in recommending this book.

E-books are not her forte. A favorite author of mine but she should stick with regular length novels with time for character and plot development.

Good enough short teaser to keep you occupied until the next full length book come out. No spoiler alert needed to know there wasn't any advancement of her relationship with Ryan
