5.0 out of 5 stars BEAUTIFUL Book! Bones fans will LOVE it! November 1, 2007
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is of excellent quality and really fun to look at! The pages are very colorful and include tons of photographs and forensic definitions / facts!

The book starts with a foreward by Kathy Reichs, an introduction by Hart Hanson (exec producer), then another section on the inspiration for the show and how it was developed.

This is all followed by an episode guide which takes up most of the pages of the book, but it is not your typical episode guide. In addition to the plot summary (which includes key facts as to how the case is solved), it details who wrote each episode, who the guest stars were, information about filming and location, definitions of forensic terms used in the episode, dialogue clips, and even a listing of music and artists that were featured in each episode.

Mixed in amongst the episode listings are a few pages with detailed information (titled "Research Files" in the table of contents) on the following subjects: Victim Identification, The Angelator, Insect Activity & Soil Analysis, X-Rays, Practical Experimentation, and Identifying Foreign Matter.

Following the episode guide are character profiles, with about four pages of photos and information for each character (including both Dr. Goodman from Season 1 and Cam from Season 2). These are followed by "Behind the Scenes" pages titled "Gross Anatomy: Special Effects Makeup: Creating the Dead Bodies" and "Getting Under the Skin: The Science of Bones."

I was REALLY impressed by this book, especially for the price. I would expect it to go for at least $20, maybe even $30. (The cover price is $14.95 though Amazon is currently selling it for a little more than $10). Its fantastic and makes a great gift for Bones fans!

5.0 out of 5 stars a wonderful gift for Bones fans December 20, 2007
Format:Paperback
I just received this in the mail today. It is a Christmas gift for my daughter, who loves Bones. I was expecting a paperback book with maybe a few full color photos. What I got was an ENTIRE book in full color. The quality is excellent. The pictures are wonderful. She is going to have a fit. The book is organized into episodes, with a summary, glossary of terms and list of music used in the episode. The book also contains character profiles and science information. This book surpassed my expectations and it is going to turn out to be her favorite gift, I am sure. You won't be disappointed.

This book has made my year. I am in love with Bones and this just adds to the obsession-It comes with all the songs in each episode so you could add it to your library. The pictures are to die for and the review of each episode is excellent and doesn't forget anything.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining look at an entertaining show January 19, 2008
A Kid's Review
Format:Paperback
For me, "Bones" is something of a guilty pleasure. It may not have the cachet of the critically acclaimed TV shows, but I've never been one for letting critics make up my mind for me.

As a longtime fan of Kathy Reichs/Temperance Brennan novels, when I heard about the show, I had to check it out. It really has little connection to the series of novels--a well written and always riveting read-- beyond the fact that both share a character called Temperance Brennan who is a forensic anthropologist who helps solve crimes. The Temperance of the books is very much Kathy Reichs herself--even sharing the split jobs in Quebec (forensic anthropologist with the central coronor) and North Carolina (forensic anthropologist profesor). The book Temperance is older, divorced with a grown daughter, an ex-husband with whom she has a great relationship and sometimes conflicted feelings for--and an on-again/off-again lover she works with on cases when in Quebec.

The TV Temperance is younger, works in a fictional "Smithsonian-esque"
Washington DC institution, and helps out the FBI, with her quasi partner, FBI agent Seely Booth.

Not being a purist about such things, the dichotomized Brennan didn't bother me. I was very early on captivated by the off beat humor of the TV show. Serious, yet not, the television show has an entirely different feel than the books. The TV Temperance is a writer, who writes books about "Kathy Reichs"---a guffaw inducing wink at the source material and executive producer of the show, Reich herself. She has a staff of quirky characters and an interesting chemistry with Seely.

The "Official Companion" is a colorful look inside the TV program.

This is an okay companion to the series but really not worth the price. It was slightly interesting if you love the series, but not a must-have.
