Composer/saxophonist Jack Wilkins contributes the title track as well as LazyBone, which features Rex Richardson on trumpet.
Composers Jerald Shynett and David Gluck also contribute new tracks that expand the strike zone of trombone performance, and arranger David Stamps offers a new take on the oft-heard Saint-Saëns Adagio from the Organ Symphony--but with the Hammond B3 supporting the trombone soloist.

Monster Bones,

I have been listening and listening to Boneyard. It's really exciting, and ambitious and substantive. I love the variety--the elegiac Saint Saens, the snappy Hi Fly, the..... I like the unexpected horn/guitar part in Stardust. And though I don't usually like the organ, I do here. My favorite of the unfamiliar pieces is Exemption--for no particular reason. You can really feel the energy of the live recordings. And the Ellington is wonderful--always wonderful, even when you learn how he exploited Billy Strayhorn. I've known Tom Brantley's work with Rhythm & Brass; this solo effort (with back-up from his talented friends) is impressive: confident, mature, polished.

Great Musician! A must for anyone who plays the trombone,
This review is from: Boneyard (MP3 Download)
I was lucky to join the trombone studio of Marta Hofacre at the University of Southern Mississippi during Tom's last undergraduate year there. I remember him soloing with with Jazz band (holding his own with the guest artists) and then soloing classical music with the wind ensemble and the Mississippi symphony. He had a rare combination of a great sound, technique and musicality. I hope this recording is the start of getting many people to listing to this great artist! Check this recording out and look at his Facebook page to see when he is performing.
