5.0 out of 5 stars BON WOULD BE PROUD
I've been listening to AC/DC since the late 70s and have every album by them. Bon Scott is my favorite singer of all time. Bonfire is something that us "hardcore" AC/DC fans have been waiting for for almost twenty years! Some really great rare live stuff and some cool outakes/unrealesed songs from The Highway To Hell sessions. Bon would be proud.

While Back In Black is a Brian Johnson album- I think that it's fitting that it was included in this set. It was, after all, a tribute to the late, great Bon Scott. I also love the original artwork on Back In Black.

Also included is a really cool AC/DC bottle opener/keychain, poster, sticker, and a very insightful booklet about AC/DC's years with Bon Scott.

This box set probably wouldn't appeal to "newbies" only "hardcores" like myself and many others who have grown up listening to everything by this incredible hard rock band.

To people who are just getting into AC/DC I would highly recommend Highway To Hell, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, Powerage and Let There Be Rock. All are outstanding albums with Bon Scott.

Also check out the classics Back In Black and For Those About To Rock. The two best offerings(in my opinion) from AC/DC with Brian Johnson on vocals.

Bonfire is an excellent tribute to one of rock's greatest front men. As I stated before-Bon would be proud.

This trubute to there great singer who passed away in 1980 Bon Scott was a bit of a disapointment in one area!

It is a box set containing 4 albums!

LET THERE BE ROCK (live) - Is a great live show from 1979 in Paris. Which is the famous video every AC/DC fan should have a copy of on VHS and is asking for it to be put to DVD now! Thats not the downfall, that is a great album!

ATLANTIC STUDIOS - This is a great small radio show they did in New York just after the release of Powerage, however the downfall is, there was two of these shows!....where's the other one? There was another Live at the atlantic studios recorded the next year or so? so where is that show??? for the 30 minutes this show ran, they couldve easly fit that other show onto the same disc here!

Back In Black - I know this is the tribute album they first made FOR Bon Scott... but what person doesnt already have this album???? Particuly seeing as how it would be AC/DC fans buying this box set, im sure theres not an AC/DC fan anywhere who doesent already have the album! let alone non AC/DC fans will probably have this album already in there collection somewhere! Why was this included?????

Voltz - AC/DC said they tryd to find as much rare Bon material as possible....well, they didnt seem to look very hard! Not to mention that "School Days" may not have been released world wide, but has been available on the Australian TNT album since it came out in 1975! When they released this box set in Australia, they should have swapped "school days" for "love at first feel" which was not released in Australia!

There are so many songs missing! and not just live performances!

- Carry Me Home - for some reason has not been released on an offical album, it came out as a single, and is probably one of there greatest ever drinking songs that i'm sure had to be one of Bons favorites...why was it not included?

- Cold Hearted Man - was released on POWERAGE only on certin rarer finds of an Australian Box Set of records of Bon and some parts of Europe on Powerage, but none the less, still should have been on this album instead of "long way to the top" which im sure every ac/dc fan would also have!

Plus some songs have not been released outside of Australia!
- Love Song
- Stick Around
- Rock In Peace (R.I.P)
- Crabsody In Blue

So why did we end up with another copy of Back in black? and a few songs already available that everyone would already have had anyway???? where are those extra songs that arnt there? but can be downloaded easilly? Are we gonnah see a BonFire 2? or an Unreleased tracks album? because theres ten times as many unreleased Brian songs too!

Atlantic Studios i give 5 stars
Let there be rock I give 5 stars
Back In Black is a 5 star album, but gets no stars for beeing in this box set
and volts looses stars for not beeing complete with the stuff we really wanted... 5 stars for the great un heard material! but loosing 2 stars for including songs we all have, and for not including more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Boxed Set, July 27, 2005

I'm a huge AC/DC fan and Bon is possibly my favorite singer of all time and getting to see some live and unreleased tracks from his early and golden days was a real treat to me. 3 live discs and one with unreleased tracks is well worth the money but I can't see why Back in Black was put on this set. Any person who would spend $50 - $70 on a AC/DC set without a doubt has Back in Black. Bon's a singer who died far too early and it was a shame that he had to pass but I'm sure he would be happy with the boxed set that really is the ultimate tribute to celebrate his legacy. A great buy for any AC/DC fan even with Babk in Black in it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A tribute to the first singer of the best band, July 7, 2002
This review is from: Bonfire (Audio CD)
This set is a tribute to Ronald (Bon) Scott who died tragically of Severe Alcohol Use. This set offers all of the best Early Ac/DC and Back in Black, one of the Best selling albums of all time.
The first CD, Live in Atlantic studio's offer's 8 songs from a series of Radio Concerts AC/DC did at Atlantic studios, it has songs like Live Wire and Hell ain't a bad place to be, as well as other AC/DC Classics. The sound quality is great. except for some parts where the master tape was destroyed. But theres only like 30 seconds of this and yo can hardly notice.

the second CD, Volts, is a Collection of Rare Stdio and live Recordings, the two Live songs are Sin City and She's Got Balls. My 2 Personal favorite songs on this CD are Backseat Confidential with the riffs from the recording Beating around the bush, and Its a long way to the top(if you want to rock and roll). i always laugh when i here this song becase of the bagpipe solos, you'd think AC/DC and bagpipes dont mix, but they made it work. The sound Quality on this Album is just like all their studio albums except the 2 live songs.

The third album is Let There Be Rock (the Movie)live from Paris. I love this album which includes 2 CD's. again in some parts the master tape was destroyed but you can barely here it, and its only for like 30 seconds. other than that the sound quality is great. It has Great songs such as The Jack, TNT, Let there Be Rock And whole lotta Rosie

Back in Black, youd think, Why this? well i am glad they put it in because it compliments all the other albums because of its meaning. It was meant as a tribute to bon after he died. the songs are remastered on this one and it sounds even better than the first. And it has a different case and the cd looks different. the case is all black with the outline of "AC/DC Back in Black." and the CD isnt pink and yellow any more. it is black with the letters AC/DC in silver and back in black in silver.

lastly, the extras, it comes with a black Guitar pick that says AC/DC in white. A large sticke with the bonfire logo, an AC/DC bottle opener, a 2 sided posterone side has a large picture of bon, the other has Angus on Bon's Shoulders, and a temporary tatoo that says AC/DC.

and the book that it comes with is great the first half has motly quotes and a biography of the band and Bon, but it also has some great pictures of bon and the band. the second half is more quotes and pictures as well as copies of lyrics to songs in his handwriting.

This has been one of my best investments. i would reccomend this to anyone who likes AC/DC. My dad has Back in Black and I listened to it and AC/DC is been my favorite band ever since. If youre willing to spent 60 to 70 dollars i say go for it. It is great for the Hard core fan or someone starting out who wants a good foundation to start on.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Tribute to a Rock Legend, March 9, 2000
This review is from: Bonfire (Audio CD)
Bonfire is a fitting tribute to Bon Scott, one of rock's most enduring legends. When Bon Scott left us on February 19, 1980; so did a part of AC/DC. Sure, Bon's "replacement," Brian Johnson, has gone on to record some classic albums with AC/DC, but the fact is, there is only one Bon Scott. Bon Scott was a character, and a believable one at that. Bon sang about partying, the road, and dirty women, just like countless other rockers, but unlike so many others, Bon Scott is the real deal, and it comes through in his delivery. Nobody was wittier, nobody was more mischivous, and no one can tell a story like the great Bon Scott. 1997 brings us a LONG overdue tribute to Bon Scott, a box set called Bonfire. This 5 CD set is awesome! The CD's include: "Live From Atlantic Studios," the "Let There Be Rock" movie soundtrack,(2 CDs), a Cd of demos and other rarities called Volts, and the only questionable entry in the box set, "Back In Black." Which is AC/DC's first album without Bon, and is dedicated to him. Sure, "Back In Black" is a bona-fide classic, but what AC/DC fan who is willing to dish out $65 for a box set doesn't already own "Back In Black?" A much more suitable replacement would be a CD containing some of the Australian only tracks, such as "Crabsody In Blue" and "R.I.P.(Rock In Peace)". Fortunately, "School Days" is included in the Volts CD. Overall, this box set is a MUST HAVE for any AC/DC-Bon Scott fan. If you don't own it, what are you waiting for, buy it- NOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars BON THE MASTER, June 22, 2001
By
This review is from: Bonfire (Audio CD)
Expert lyric writer, charismatic live performer, owner of a unique voice, the missing ingredient that finally put AC/DC inm the road to stardom: this was Bon Scott. In this bx set, it will be clear to you how great the guy was. There are two live albuns, LET THERE BE ROCK THE MOVIE and LIVE IN THE ATLANTIC STUDIOS. Both are amazing, rough, energetic. I think the band as a whole never sounded so great, strong, cohesive. The CD VOLTS features great unreleased stuff and some compilation ( "RIDE ON" and "IT'S A LONG WAY TO THE TOP" ). I don't reallyu know what Back in Black is doing in this Box SET. We all know it is the best selling album by AC/DC, one of the greatest rock records of all times, but it doesn't feature Bon Scott. It is in the box set to show the transition between Bon and Brian, but I think it was not necessary. Some people say that most of the material for Back In Black was alreayd researched before Bon died. I dón't know.

5.0 out of 5 stars You MUST Buy This!, June 3, 2000
This review is from: Bonfire (Audio CD)
This album is heaven for the hard-core AC/DC fan, it has nearly everything you could want. The Let There Be Rock 2-cd live disc is the best live material by far with Bon at the helm, and is the perfect counterpart to the 2-cd live set from the Razor's Edge tour. Live From Atlantic Studios is great, live with viratually no crowd, made even better by Bon's showmanship, announcing every song to the small audience, and interacting with them. Volts is something hardcore fans have been wanting for a long time, a collection of previosly unreleased and rare AC/DC songs (with a few classics thrown in for good measure). And, of course, Back In Black is on here. Don't balk and say "I already have it...", the sound quality on this version is vastly superior to the stand alone version. Buy today!

4.0 out of 5 stars Warning: May cause severe hearing loss., December 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Bonfire (Audio CD)
This box set is an AC/DC fan's wet dream come true. Crammed with 4 cd's (5 discs in-all), this is put together how all box sets should be put together. Most are released being a retrospective of an artist/bands career, in a way a greatest hits package. This is anything but, most of the material here is unreleased live and demo material, making it ESSENTIAL for not just Bon Scott era fans, but all AC/DC diehards. The first disc is frim a radio show in New York around 1978, being one of the first public appearances by the band in the states at that time. The music comes off strong and Bon is in excellent vocal form. Standout tracks being The Jack(clean version), Whole Lotta Rosie, and The Rocker. Disc 2 is a double disc set from a Paris show early 1980, a soundtrack to the video released of the same name. If you have the video the only added bonus to this is the song TNT, which comes off weak, but as for the rest of the performance, it's top-notch stuff, every song is a highlight. Even when you get to TNT your'e already rocked so it won't matter. Cd 3 is a collection of demos, studio tracks, and one-off live songs. The live stuff is great, those being Sin City and She's Got Balls are performed excellent, the demos are so-so, and the studio tracks are miss placed in this collection. Lastly, we come to the 4th disc, being Back In Black. Why o why it's in here is beyond me. It's a classic in all, but if you want to cap off a salute to Bon Scott, don't pay him with this tribute, replace it with Highway To Hell, Bon's swan song. That album is much better than Back In Black, and Bon is at his singing and songwriting peak on it. All-in-all a must have for the live material, and 99% of everyone buying this has Back In Black already, that's the only flaw.

5.0 out of 5 stars AC/DC'S BONFIRE BOX SET IS EXPLOSIVE!!!, April 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Bonfire (Audio CD)
This is the ultimate tribute to Bon Scott. 5 cd's full of unreleased material and classics in the Bon Scott era. Plus a giant two sided Bonfire poster, AC/DC keychain/bottle opener "fitting", temporary tattoo, big Bonfire sticker, huge booklet with all of the info you need to know about the bands history, and finally an offical AC/DC black pic! My faviorate cd in this box set is Volts. If you like older AC/DC, you'll love this box set. When I first got it through the mail, I listened to every cd in order, and all the way through. You're garanteed to get you'r money's worth. "Check out"The Jack"(Live) on Let There Be Rock, The Movie, Live In Paris." It's the best version of that song. "Ride on Bon."

4.0 out of 5 stars Killer Bon Scott era material, December 28, 2004
This review is from: Bonfire (Audio CD)
For Bon Scott fans, I'd give this 5 stars. But anyone who loves live rock and roll has got to love this set. Not only do you get the full soundtrack to the 1979 concert film "Let There Be Rock" but an additional single disc of one of the band's earliest U.S. appearances, a promo gig at Atlantic Studios. I especially like the slightly extended version (extra guitar break) of "Dog Eat Dog" from the Atlantic show!

Bon's voice kicks a$$ throughout and reminds us of what a loss it was when he passed. Angus ... well, I could listen to him wail on that SG all day. you know his sound - you want some more? buy this box set.

the rarities disc is neat, but mostly these rough versions of familiar tunes have value as curios. On the other hand, you get a sweet live radio version of "sin City" and the early cover of Chuck Berry's "School Days" that was only available on their first Australian-only release. It kicks [...]. Makes you wonder why they didn't include it on the Jailbreak EP. For absolutely no reason, the regular studio versions of "Long Way To The Top" and "Ride On" are included.

What really makes no sense here is the inclusion of the "Back In Black" album. First of all, I have to think that 90% of the fans who buy this already HAVE B.I.B., and of course the more obvious fact is that this is a tribute to Bon Scott; what the heck is a Brian Johnson album doing here? I wonder if this was a scam to boost total sales figures of Back in Black.

Nice liner notes ... and the AC/DC bottle-opener is not only a hilarious touch, but a useful addition to my key chain.

If they had left out Back In Black and charged less, or better yet added another live disc with songs not included here (Long Way To The Top, Jailbreak, Dirty Deeds, for ex.), then i'd give it 5 stars. but it is still fantastic collection of some of the best straight-ahead rock and roll ever recorded.
