oh, the glories of the discount rack, April 29, 2002
This review is from: Bong Ep (Audio CD)
not that you care... but let me tell you a little story. i went to a cd store, pretty low on cash and with nothing particular in mind to purchase. this being the situation, i began to paw through the "3 for 5 dollars" rack. Bong was one of the cds there. i was enthralled by the band's name (i had never heard of them before) and hey, i'll buy almost anything for 1.66. i went home and slipped the 20-minute cd into a stereo. expecting total trash, i was shocked to discover that this is extremely good music! something i would have spent more than a buck and 2/3 on! the musicians are talented, the lyrics are fun, and NFAD is not just one of those carbon-copy bands (many of which have cds and songs running rampant in cd players, on the airwaves, and in heads everywhere.) for something a little bit different, rather impressive, and just plain enjoyable, buy this. personally, i just might buy another of their cds... though it may cost a little more than the first. :) *note: this music is especially good, in my humble opinion, for listening to whilst doing crunches or sit-ups.

An interesting find, made even more interesting by price, September 25, 2003
This review is from: Bong Ep (Audio CD)
What a bizarre little CD! I found this in a rather large box I treated myself to from a record store liquidation, so my total price was very low. Even at a price higher than mine, it's definitely worth checking out. At only 20 minutes long, it's a bit on the short end, but overall a great find. The vocals, and even the droning, swirling guitars to some extent remind me of mid-period Killing Joke, or perhaps even the underrated band Lubricated Goat. It's got a nice post-punk sound to it, with some great dissonant moments. Percussion is well done, and heavy... even the snare has that nice snap (instead of the annoying ping) that drummers love to hear in a recording! The mix is very well done, and just gritty enough to easily retain any "street credibility" -- this is not overproduced at all... in fact that may be my favorite thing about the album. The mix is rock-solid. See if you can't find yourself a copy of this disc soon, before they all disappear!
