5.0 out of 5 stars It's hard to beat the Incredible Bongo Band, July 5, 2001

This review is from: Bongo Rock: Complete Incredible Bongo Band (Audio CD)
The Incredible Bongo Band is like a pearl: hard to find and of everlasting beauty. Percussion plays a major part but it is supported by other instruments and mixed in a magnificent way. This is early 70's music and the recording quality is so good it doesn't need your nostalgic forgiveness. Most of the tracks are covers. Bongo Rock, in my opinion, is better than Preston Epps' original version. Other tracks like Duelling Bongos are so unique they make you forget the original. I guess this album got a 4-star rating only from the other music lovers because some tracks will always be compared to their monumental originals. Making a cover of a sacred song, such as Iron Butterfly's In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, is always a dangerous thing to do. Nevertheless this album deserves a special place in your collection: you will surprise and impress your music loving friends with this hardly known masterpiece. Make sure to keep a little space for it in your suitcase in case you are banned to !a deserted island. But if you never get that far, I'm sure you will enjoy this timeless album regularly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bongos a go go, June 14, 2001

This album is great stuff. Much of the material on the album was written for a film called The Creature With Two Heads. While the film itself was no great success, its music certainly is. You should give it a listen. Bongos have never sounded better. Buy it.
