This title appears to attract the ignorant..., October 26, 2009
This review is from: Bongos Over Balham (Exp) (Audio CD)
Otherwise why would there be so many cockamamie reviews? This cd is not by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, has nothing to do with punk or any other current form of music. This release fits in the genre of Pub Rock, (similar to Brinsley Schwartz, Ducks Deluxe, etc.) and originally came out in 1974. It is a very pleasant listen, with a few standout tracks, notably Midnight Bus, which I believe was written and originally performed by Jesse Winchester. This release is also notable for featuring the guitar playing (in human guise) of Snakefinger, noted contributor to the Residents, though you'd never know it from his playing here. To top it off, the Amazon listing has a number of errors; this particular edition has 20 tracks, not 10 or 22, and there is no version of this title that is a 2 cd set. So ignore most of the review, buy if you like Pub Rock, and good luck with whatever variations you may encounter: the cd I have described has the correct upc for this listing.

Classic '70s pub-rock, April 26, 2002
I despaired of ever finding a replacment for my much worn vinyl copy of Bongos Over Balham. On a lark, I did a search in Amazon and there it was! This music is just so sweet and fine, it amazes me that these guys just faded away. At any rate, pick up a copy of this while you still can. I can't imagine that it will remain in print for long. Now if only WEA will re-issue the classic Grunt recording of Jack Bonus' only LP.
