5.0 out of 5 stars Wildhorn at his best! April 26, 2012
Format:Audio CD
I have been a Frank Wildhorn fan since I first listened to his Jekyll and Hyde Complete Works. I was a freshmen in college, and spent the Christmas vacation listening to that set and nothing else. The year was 1995, prior to the Broadway premiere of the show in 1997. I enjoyed the pop feel and the relatability of Wildhorn's score then. It was easy to listen to over and over again.

Bonnie and Clyde is a matured and sophisticated version of that. Wildhorn takes the rockabilly, downtrodden feeling of the depression, yet still Broadway. It's a fine line that Wildhorn treads with expert finesse. Don't let the critics scare you away from this recording.

Every track advances the plot of the rampaging couple, and sweeps you along in the adventure. Some of the highlights are Clyde's Raise a Little Hell, that is performed to perfection by Jeremy Jordan, Blanche/Buck's You're Goin' Back to Jail, Bonnie/Clyde's This World Will Remember Us, and Bonnie/Clyde's Picture Show.

The score encompasses country and western with a little blues and gospel thrown in there. All prevelant in the south during that time.

The lyrics by Don Black are an excellent match for the music and the time-period. The talent of the cast is unmatched. I cannot speak highly enough about Jeremy Jordan as Clyde, Laura Osnes as Bonnie, Melissa van der Schyff as Blanche (Clyde's sister-in-law), Claybourne Elder as Buck (Clyde's brother), Michael Lanning as the Preacher, and Louis Hobson as Ted the sheriff. All are in top form on this CD.

The booklet included is absolutely BRILLIANT. 23 pages of color pictures from the Broadway production, liner notes, a story outline, pictures of the real Bonnie and Clyde, and the lyrics to all the songs. (An added bonus is Bonnie Parker's The Trail's End, Bonnie's very own version of her story/life with Clyde.)

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW ! April 26, 2012
By Maof3js
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This album is, well WOW. Soaring, sweeping heartfelt songs, tap your foot rockabilly numbers, and oh such amazing voices. I was lucky enough to see this on Broadway during it's limited run, and this album is a wonderful preservation of the faboulous music. The 30 page book that comes with it is beautifully done. Besides just the song lyrics, there are amazing pictures from the show, historical pictures of the real Bonnie & Clyde, and the actual poem written by Bonnie that tells their story. You will not be disapointed with this purchase.
