Bonnie Raitt working the ropes....,
By
This review is from: Bonnie Raitt - Live at Montreux 1977 (DVD)
Its about time some 70's Bonnie Raitt surfaced. I don't feel
this show captured Bonnie at her best but it does a nice job of showing her un-polished R&B rootsy styles she did such a great job doing effortlessly. I first saw a live Raitt show in Boston 1975 @the Music Hall and that show just blew this one to pieces but this is a nice bit of history for Bonnie fans. She really had a much better command of her vocals during this time period, I think she may have been touring all over the place and her voice shows it here and there. The 1991 shows are a totally different Bonnie Raitt. Her stage presense and vocals just flow and her slide guitar smokes & the band is one of the best out there at the time, they did everything from funked up rock to back porch country blues, you name it Bonnie is so smooth yet at the top of her game. This is a collectors items not to be missed. Just taking in the sounds from the 70's, the clothes and all its great, looking forward to the new "SOULS ALIKE" coming from Bonnie this Sept!

Bonnie Raitt & band in their prime,

This is heavy on material from "Home Plate" and "Sweet Forgiveness", & thankfully is from the pre-cocaine days. Watching this was like a look back at a slimmer, less-gray me. The performance is A1, and both the audio & video recording are excellent. The extras from '91 are OK, too, but this from 1977 is when I saw Bonnie & band every time I could for at least 8 or 9 years. I watched this for this first time with my best friend, and she was almost in tears she was digging it so much. Needless to say, I had to buy myself a new copy the next day, as I didn't have the heart to take this away from her. Just buy it.

BONNIE'S EARLY-PERIOD PEAK,
By NYC Music Lover (New York, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bonnie Raitt - Live at Montreux 1977 (DVD)
Anyone who is a die-hard Bonnie fan should enjoy this DVD.
I feel a particular nostalgic twinge watching it because it was recorded about a month before I first saw her in concert. This performance captures a younger Bonnie ripping through a "best-of" her early material. Many of my favorites of that period are included: "Give It Up Or Let Me Go", "Love Me Like A Man", "Home" and especially "Good Enough", the song that SHOULD have been her first hit. You'll chuckle at the primitive visuals: strange, extreme closeups, her bassist Freebo's "Roseanne Roseannadanna" haircut, and those stage lights which have that 70's latenight TV Record Promo "twinkle". BUT, Bonnie's vocals and smoking guitar playing were as great then as they are now. This is truly a lost treasure for long- time fans, and something that newer fans should find very enjoyable. Almost 30 years after this was filmed, Bonnie Raitt is still one of a kind!

I bought this as a gift, but I had a chance to view it beforehand and plan on adding it to my own collection of music-videos. This DVD captures Bonnie Raitt at her absolute best as a singer-songwriter and blues-guitarist. As a guitarist myself, I was blown away by Bonnie's performance. The songs are great, the band is great, the atmosphere at Montreux is fantastic. Buy it!

Not so good. However if you like the old grainy bar scene rawness in a video performance, it is interesting from that point of view. Bonnie herself, is always good. I would not have purchased it, if I had seen it previous.

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, and multiple Grammy Winner, Bonnie Raitt and her 1977 band do an outstanding performance in this concert dvd. You can tell it was from the 1970's because of the hair styles of some of the band members. Their performances are simply outstanding. You get 11 great songs from the 1977 concert, plus, 4 more from Bonnie & her "up-dated" 1991 band. Luckily, the 1991 timing was great, because Bonnie had just released the Grammy Award winning album 'Luck of the Draw' and she was receiving lots & lots of radio airplay from that album at the time. Bonnie is a great blues vocalist & guitarist and this concert dvd proves it. She has my repect. She can Rock!!! This is a "must-have" for any Bonnie Raitt fan, and I am one. Therefore, I highly recommend this dvd. I think you'll enjoy it very much. Thanks!!!!

Any Bonnie fan would love this dvd. It's in her earlier years and shows the great finger picking skill on the guitar. Then moves on to her repeat performance in 1994 where she's added the blonde tips and the slide for the guitar

Unfortunately, the sound quality on this disk is not very good and to cap it, I found that the Bonnie Raitt of today was just not present!
Granted this was filmed in 1977, but still this is not one of her best concerts.

This video is old, Bonnie is much better now. If u are curious as to what she did, when she was coming up, then this is ok to get. Not a very exciting video, but she's nice on it. It has a terrible resale value.

Ravina Festival - Bonnie Raitt Concert - Highland Park, IL -,
This review is from: Bonnie Raitt - Live at Montreux 1977 (DVD)
Bonnie Raitt Concert, June 23 & 24th, 2006 at the Ravinia Festival (which is a beautiful place to go see a concert), in Highland Park, IL. at 7:30 p.m. was absolutely "awesome". The night she played there, she sung most of her songs from her newest album, "Souls Alike". The night was beautiful at the Ravinia Festival and she played in the Pavilion. She played along with Keb'Mo, whom was the opening act and later after her performance which won a standing ovation, the both of them played together. Keb'Mo was outstanding. If you are a Bonnie Raitt fan as I am, you would have had a wonderful time. I pray
that her performance June 23 & 24, 2006 will soon be put on DVD, I will be the first to buy it. D. WilliamsCrayton Chicago, IL. July 13, 2006 |
