Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Rhodes scholar, founder of the International Creative Forum, originator of the concept of "lateral thinking," and well-known provider of corporate workshops on thinking, de Bono here provides the essence of his teachings and writings (repeatedly referred to throughout this volume) for those who cannot attend those pricey sessions. De Bono does not equate intelligence with thinking ability, and he believes that good thinkers can be created by use of the tools ("attention directing devices") he has created. Don't be put off by the acronyms for the tools; they are all part of de Bono's methodology, and frequent exercises are given to provide facility in using them. De Bono includes illustrations (unseen) that should help to elucidate the text and even a chapter on how to start a thinking club. Both public and academic libraries looking for an accessible title on thinking should consider this self-help course. Libraries that hold some of de Bono's many, many other books (from New Think, LJ 1/15/69 to Power of Focused Thinking, LJ 11/15/91) may also want to consider it. Although there may not be much really new here, it does condense his thinking into a single volume.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read for Real-Life Problem-Solvers, March 27, 2000
By
As a tenured law-professor in a school dedicated to teaching lawyers to solve problems creatively, I consider de Bono's book the most startlingly original and comprehensive book I've encountered on the subject. Moreover, it convincingly reveals how unaware teachers, academics, journalists, politicians, and other professionals are of the mental shackles we wear as our legacy from the Western Tradition of "thinking." For the price, it's just-under-200 pages can't be beat!

By A Customer
This review is from: De Bono's Thinking Course (Hardcover)
If there was ever a book that changed my life, this is it. This book is a synopsis of many of de Bono's other books. It is written simply and filled with bits of humour. It's a quick read, and the ideas and tools he introduces are meant to focus your thinking skills and change your perspective on how thinking is done. Please get this book and read it with an open mind. You will like it

The Thinking Course by Edward DeBono is a terrific work for anyone who strives for creativity, innovation, or new ideas. Not only does he help one grasp how we think, he provides specific ways to think differently and bring structure to the process of thinking. This book is a hidden treasure that I will recommend to many of my professional colleagues and friends.
