My daughter plays a real clarinet, and little brother is always bugging her to play it.

I know because of how cheap the toy is made it'll be broke within a week.

The "Botempi" toy clarinet seems a reasonably sturdy plastic toy instrument. It plays a C-Major scale, though the lower half-octave is of dubious tuning. This can be a problem if one wishes to use the toy clarinet in conjunction with other instruments (a toy piano or toy trumpet, for example). I'm a composer, and I wrote a little piece for this toy clarinet, the "Botempi" toy trumpet, the "House of Marbles" toy drum (highly recommended), and a Schoenhut toy piano (a fine instrument). I found that I was only able to reliably use the upper half-octave (G to C) of the toy clarinet when accompanying the toy piano or even the toy trumpet.

The sound of both the "Botempi" toy wind instruments is close to that of the harmonica (actually, it's a cross between an harmonica and the medieval crumhorn), so don't expect a "clarinet" sound. Still, it's easy to use and sturdy, assuming gentle play. If you don't need the pitches to be accurate, and you don't need a toy clarinet that sounds like a clarinet (which may not exist), then this is an amusing and smile-inducing toy instrument.

Our three year old loves this good looking (for plastic)silver toy clarinet that allows him to play along with his favorite classical CD's (he's a big Baby Einstein fan). For the price it's definitely worth the fun it's facilitated. We've got the whole set (clarinet, trumpet, and sax). The sax has made it through four months of regular use (not being used as a substitute toy drum though) with no defects- the other two instruments have each had a single button/key break.

We purchased this as well as the trumpet and sax. We like them all, but this one is by far the best. It is the easiest for our 3 year old and 18 month old to play. The keys are the easiest to move (some of the sax's keys are very hard to press, and no sound comes out without at least one key pressed - except for the high whistle that can be produced if you blow really hard). The mouthpiece on the clarinet is the easiest for the kids to use. The trumpet is less fun since it is harder to play recognizable songs due to the small amount of keys, but they seem to like the way it feels to hold it. The trumpet and clarinet are the easiest to hold. We have had them for over 8 months and everything is holding up well. We are very glad we purchased all of them, but if someone is able to only get one, or is looking to give one as a present or something - we HIGHLY recommend getting the clarinet.

This product is priced good for the quality. If you have a child that is rough with toys, this is not a good chose. My daughter is 4 years old and she really enjoys this toy.

My daughter love this toy clarinet, she can play simple children songs with it however I think the clarinet is a bit too large for 3.5 yrs old to hold properly. Good product overall.

My four year old loved it, but I was surprised the plastic wasn't sturdier, knowing it is intended for use by young children. The small parts seem almost brittle.

This clarinet was just what my grandson needed. At two he is very musically oriented. I also have the saxophone and trumpet. They have held up to many hours of toddler use.

We bought the Bontempi saxophone along with this clarinet for my 3 year-old daughter's best friend who absolutely loves it. His 7-year old sister isn't so thrilled because he plays it every waking minute. Fortunately it sounds pretty good for an inexpensive toy so her objection is probably because he's so blissfully happy and what big sibling wants that?? We bought two of these instruments so the little ones could have their own band but we've found big sister playing sometimes too. Busted!

Seriously, though, the kids really have fun with it and we hope it fosters a life-long love of music. Cliche? Maybe. But that doesn't mean it can't be true.
