All year long, my three and a half year old daughter asked for a digital camera for Christmas. 3-weeks before Christmas, she sat on Santa's lap at the mall and asked for a TRUMPET of all things. I immediately came home and searched online. Everyone had the colorful play trumpets that were electronic with diferent characters on them, but none of them looked real! And I'm pretty sure that my daughter was expecting Santa to bring a real trumpet, so I found this, ordered it and it was here BEFORE the estimated delivery date!

It is extremely lightweight (cannot be used as a weapon), each button has a different tone to it AND it looks real (besides the fact that it's not brass). She loved it! She plays it all the time and unbelievably, it's not the most annoying toy she has. I would recommend it to anyone with young children interested in musical instruments.

I'll admit I bought this for my 4 year old who not only blows into it but throws it and bangs it agaisnt the TV. So although he wanted it I probably should've waited a few years to show him just how cool the trumpet is.

I think kids who show signs of interest in music will enjoy it. It actually sounds like a harmonica but what do you expect for $14. Still, the valves do work and produce different notes so that's really the point to it. Getting them familiar with how an instrument works. They even have a musical pieces on the back of the box with color coded notes so your young Dizzy Gilepsie and can follow along.

Aw go ahead a grab it, why not?

My son Miles approves of this message.

The child playing this trumpet must really blow air into it and press the keys to get it to play music. This is so refreshing, since a lot of "musical instruments" for kids now are all battery powered musicboxes that don't require any skill or give any sense of accomplishment when played. Bravo to the company who makes this!

We bought this toy for our almost 3 year old son last Christmas, so nearly a year ago and it is still one of his favorite toys. He is hard on his toys, this one included and it has held up supremely well. The sound it makes is nothing like a trumpet and it took him a while to blow enough air into it to get more than one note out at a time, but he never gave up. He loves this toy. Now he plays "songs" and they all sound lovely and not annoyingly loud. He is nearly 4 now and we are getting him the matching Sax to go with the trumpet. I can tell you that this toy has been thown, banged, sat on, used as a bat and all. It has held up very well.

My two-year old LOVES the trumpet. He even sleeps with it. The first one he had broke so we needed to replace it. Unable to find one in town, I chose between the two here on Amazon.

I'm sure now that that one we originally had was not the Bontempi brand. The Bontempi is made of that thin plastic while (I believe the $24 one) is like what we had - that thicker waxy feeling plastic.

The first only broke after a year of hard daily use and a guest who didn't see it before they stepped on it. This new one, I fear won't last as long.

Consider the $24 one if you think you're child will really love to play it as much as mine does.

My kid BEGGED for a trumpet (?!) for her 4th birthday. No clue where she even found out what a trumpet was. But after the idea didn't go away for weeks, I searched Amazon and came up with this.

Maybe it is because this isn't an American toy (it's an Italian company), this is more civilized than usual, and less obnoxious than most American toys. The trumpet is made from a lightweight plastic, which feels like it should be that cheap plastic crap that shatters easily, but it isn't. This thing is lightweight and amazingly tough. While I am sure it CAN be broken, my offspring hasn't managed to do it yet, and she is tough on toys.

Most importantly though, no, it doesn't make obnoxious trumpet noises, more like a soft harmonica kind of noise. Someone designed this thing with the sanity of the parents in mind. It actually sounds pretty.

The toy is functional as a musical instrument, and even comes with some sheet music printed on the box. Overall a good purchase, and if she asks for a saxophone next we will buy from the same company again.

UPDATE: A full year later this toy remains unbroken. The kiddo is still playing with it too.

My 4-year old granddaughter is a huge fan of Einstein videos and one has a trumpet. At her request I bought her one and she plays right along with the videos now. She loves it!! I highly recommend it, with her tiny fingers she can still operate the keys.

My son has been asking us to get him a trumpet for his birthday. I looked up "toy trumpets" on here (and other websites) and the choice is very slim, to say the least. I wanted something that was going to last longer than a few weeks, really made a musical sound, but didn't cost the earth. I found this one and debated whether or not I should purchase, as several people on here made comments about how cheap/plasticky it is, and how it doesn't last long. There were also comments about how difficult it was for their children to blow to make sound, and many that stated that it sounded like a kazoo (which I DON'T want to listen to every day for the next several months!)
My son is 3, so I didn't want it to be too hard for him to play. However, I play the trumpet, and wanted it to be a little realistic in how he needed to blow to get sound, rather than just blowing into something that sounds like a kazoo and doesn't take any breath support to get a sound. I decided to go ahead and try this one, figuring we could return if it was a piece of junk, since you cannot lose with Amazon's excellent return policy.
He opened it this morning, and has played with it, on and off, the whole day. He is able to make a sound with no problem at all, and the sound produced is actually really good, in my opinion, for a plastic toy trumpet. There are four keys to press (not 3 like a real trumpet) which was sort of disappointing for me, since I'd prefer it actually mimic a real trumpet in look, but my son loves that there are four, since he's about to turn four. Each key makes a different pitch, which I was thrilled to hear, since so many toy instruments do not do this. The sound of the notes does not sound like a kazoo, but doesn't obviously sound like a real trumpet either.
