5.0 out of 5 stars Too funny, February 14, 2007
This review is from: At Bonus Time, No One Can Hear You Scream (Paperback)
This is a short novel, written sort of in the style of a diary. It starts out at "B minus 58" - 58 days until bonus communication. It is about the paranoid unhinging of a London investment banker as he counts down the days until he learns his bonus numbers. If you're in the capital markets business you know what I'm talking about. The brinksman ship, the debt, all the different ways he has the bonus spent before he has it - or even knows how much it'll be. It is not a flattering depiction of the financial services industry - showing the characters to be greedy, superficial and facile. But it is absolutely hilarious. Full of mirth and dark humor, the story follows the character's inexorable unraveling. I definitely recommend this one, although admittedly it is probably best appreciated by people working in or related to the capital markets.
