Hurray for another Bird book!,
By kmango (Maryland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Boo Hoo Bird (Hardcover)
After becoming completely smitten with Grumpy Bird, our family was so delighted to follow Bird on a new adventure with his darling band of forest friends. The characters are whimsical indeed, but with just the right dose of reality: not all days are good, and heads sometimes do get bumped. Thankfully, friendship (and distraction by good friends) is the best medicine! Bird is a wonderful preschool anti-hero -- loveable in his orneriness, because we ALL have those moments.
If you are new to Tankard's Bird, I'd definitely start with Grumpy Bird -- it's hard to beat. But for the seasoned Bird veteran, Boo Hoo bird is a welcome sequel.

My grandchildren ages three and five absolutely love this book and also Grumpy Bird by the same author. They ask for them to be read again and again.

Great Fun,
This review is from: Boo Hoo Bird (Hardcover)
This is the second book by Tankard in this series. It is fantastic. The first book Grumpy Bird was great also. In this story Bird is playing catch with Raccoon and gets bonked on the head. All of Bird's friends try to make it better by different means. A kiss, a hug, a cookie, a game and a band-aid all do not help. All of Bird's friends, Beaver, Raccoon, Sheep, Beaver and Fox cry because they cannot help bird.
Tankard tells simple stories with great illustrations that will teach children great messages. His books are ones I share with my children and think they are great for children of all ages.

my 2/12 year old girls just love this book! I love to act out when the bird is sad and have them recognize if they animals are sad or mad. I want them to work on their emotions and recognizing the animals emotions really help. Its one of my daughters favorite books now!

We got this book from the library because it looked like a good starter book for my first grader to be able to read on her own. Our entire family LOVED this cute story and I especially appreciated the message of empathy and friendship. Really cute, colorful illustrations too.We will definitely buy this book for our family library.

Bird is a completely annoying character, but my daughter, who is 5 months old, LOVES this book! The pictures are so bright and colorful; we can usually read it through 2 or 3 times before she gets bored, which is awesome for an infant. The length is great so even if she is being fussy we can still usually get through it at least once, and the story isn't all bad- in the end bird gets what's coming to him.

This book was read at a local library storytime for toddlers. My nephew, like most toddlers, is fascinated with "boo boos" and seemed to really enjoy the book. We checked it out...and renewed it NUMEROUS times! So, for his 3rd birthday, I purchased this and Grumpy Bird by the same author. This is a very sweet story of of bird "bonked" on the head while playing and his friends attempting to make him feel better. It expresses pain, empathy, frustration, and friendship in a humorous manner. The illustrations are bright and eye-catching. My nephew, his mom, and I thoroughly enjoy it!

While in NY visiting my grandson Joaquin, I purchased Grumpy Bird for him - when I got back to NM I got one for me and we read it together on Skype several times a week - I went to Amazon to see if there was another Bird book and found Boo Hoo Bird - at 3 my grandson has the entire book memorized - has different faces and voices for each of the animals - so we now read Boo Hoo Bird first then Grumpy Bird which is his second favorite - highly recommend for children 2 years and older - the pictures are bright and verse easy to listen to.

One of my 2.5 years old favorites!,

My daughter has a lot of books, but sometimes I find that I cannot always guess which books will be her favorite. So instead of buying 100 books, she may not love. I started checking a 100 books out of the library to see which ones she loved. On one of the reading days at the library, they read Grumpy Bird and I thought it was sort of cute. The librarian suggested Boo Hoo Bird. I was a bit worried that my drama-queen daughter might be a bit too encouraged by Boo Hoo bird's dramatic response to his bonk. Actually, it hasn't made her response to her own bonks any worse or better. Although she will randomly spout off phrases from the book, like telling me she is dizzy or can hardly walk, when neither of those two things are true. All in all, it's a cute book and an different storyline. The underlying message is about friendship and I think it's a bit about "getting over it" too. I actually chuckle a bit at the end when bird gets bonked again. Definitely, this has come out to be one her self-selected favorites.

Hurray for Bird!,

We own Grumpy Bird and adore it - such a unique voice, so witty and surprising. We picked up this one at the library and enjoyed it very much- it was nice to catch up with Bird and co. That being said, it's not quite as good as the first one. I'm sure my kids (2 and 4) will check it out again, but unless it comes out in paperback, we won't purchase this one.
