It's fall, and Boo and Baa are going to Bob's birthday party. Wrapping their present poses some problems. And dancing practice makes Boo dizzy. But Bob likes his present, and there are party hats and birthday cake at the party!

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

As they prepare for a birthday party for Bob, Boo and Baa, hapless heroes of Boo and Baa in the Woods, Boo and Baa at Sea, Boo and Baa Get Wet, and others in the series, bumble into one or two new predicaments. They practice dancing until Boo gets dizzy trying to read the name of the song on the turntable. Then they manage to wrap up their workbench along with Bob's present. They decide to use a box, instead. "String is nicer than tape." Finally they're ready for the party, where a good time is had by all.

The true comic beauty of the Boo and Baa series is in how seriously the perennially perplexed pair of sheep take themselves, even when learning to dance or dressing up for a party. The expressions on their faces and the subtle, witty details (grownups will appreciate the album cover with a beaming sheep that looks suspiciously like Ray Charles) are pure, artistic genius. The image of a dazed Boo who "needs to rest awhile" after his dizzy spell, will inspire unchecked chuckles long after the book has been closed. Tots simply adore the silly misadventures of Boo and Baa. (Baby to preschool) --Emilie Coulter

From Publishers Weekly

Boo and Baa are an endearing pair of wide-eyed lambs with an unspecified relationship, although brother and sister is a good bet. In Party Mood, the lambs get ready for a birthday party at their friend Bob's house; in Windy Weather, Boo and Baa struggle to get their groceries home in the thick of a snowstorm. The appeal of these ostensibly simple books lies in the nuanced presentation. The Landstroms (Will's New Cap) wield a deceptively cute cartoon drawing style (they could easily be Scandinavia's answer to Sandra Boynton) to capture a wide range of attitudes and expressions?Boo and Baa are lively, dynamic figures, even when their faces are obscured by winter stocking caps. The Landstroms also have a talent for imbuing their bare-bones stories with funny narrative fillips; for example, Boo must practice his dancing before going to the party, but gets so discombobulated by the dizzying music that he ends up exhausted and prostrated on the floor. This shows all the promise of a winning series, with one caveat: the language lacks oomph?it's hard to tell whether something was lost in translation from the original Swedish, or whether words are simply not the Landstroms' strong suit. Ages 1-4.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Boo anb Baa Series is fantastic!, August 6, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Boo and Baa in a Party Mood (Hardcover)
My son loves this book. He is two and requests it nightly! Boo and Baa are great characters that make him laugh aloud. When Boo gets dizzy from dancing and falls the the floor the facial expressions are priceless. The concept of a sheep birthday party is unique. Entertaining while educational in a subtle way. I highly recommend the entire series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gotta love these sheep!, March 28, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Boo and Baa in a Party Mood (Hardcover)
In this story the ever-lovable Boo and Baa are going to a birthday party. They are all dressed up, and prepare by wrapping the gift (trickier than you might think, resort to Plan B), and practicing dancing (not danger-free!). The simple story is on a level that quite young children can identify with, and it offers plenty of conversation material. The illustations are full of humour, while clean and simple for little ones to understand. A perfect series for the little ones in your life!

4.0 out of 5 stars Boo & Baa are so much fun!, February 27, 2007
This review is from: Boo and Baa in a Party Mood (Hardcover)
Boo & Baa are characters created by Swedish author Olof Landstrom. He captures how kids solve problems and the illustrations are great. Sometimes the English translation isn't quite how I would say it, but the kids don't seem to mind. These have been great for ages 2 and up. I ask my 6 year old how she might solve the same problems and hear some great answers.
