My first grade students really enjoyed looking closely at the illustrations. It was like a scavenger hunt as they realized how each character had been created by leaves, seed pods, etc. They tried to name every thing that was used to illustrate. When we got to the end of the story, it was very nice to see that all the things used to create the pictures were listed and labeled. Clever!
