Editorial Reviews

Douglas Wright's work epitomizes this more literate brand of horror. His dreamy, descriptive, almost poetic prose fleshes out a subtle narrative stylistically designed to make the reader think.

-- SideShow Press Web Interview Tom Moran

The man knows of what he writes. Boogaloos is set in the invisible world of the postal service, where Douglas Wright made his living. He knows, then, that dead letters are not always dead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read! June 19, 2011

I enjoyed Boogaloos very much. I could not put this down. I kept wanting to see what would happen next. I especially enjoyed the love story, the "dead mail", and found it one entertaining yet comepelling read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Boogaloos by Douglas E. Wright January 1, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Boogaloos, by Douglas E. Wright, is an odd and creepy read. In this novella, Wright tells the tale of a haunted postal department, The Dead Mail Room; where the deceased send mail without a return address, needing help to release their souls from torment and free them from roaming this plane any longer. The story had a classic, boogie-man feel to it, yet the idea was quite unique and not something I had ever read about before. Big thumbs up to the author for being creative and having an original storyline! That being said, I did have a few problems with this novella that kept me from truly getting into it.

Mr. Wright gives plenty of description to his story, placing you right there with the characters. However, it didn't take long for me to get lost in the telling of so many miniscule details and analogies. It may seem unimportant, but this alone made for a confusing and undetached read. I would find that I had forgotten where I was in the story, what exactly was going on, because of the lengthy descriptions. There were also times when the exchange between two characters became entwined with each other, making it a tad difficult to distinguish who was saying what and so on, along with a wrong name thrown in here and there. Small things, maybe, but enough to become a distraction.

All in all, I can't say that I would highly recommend this novella to readers, though I'm not against checking out any other pieces the author has published. He certainly has the imagination and talent to bring a story to life, it's just that this one, Boogaloos, needs a little tweaking.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very different horror July 24, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This horror story is really well-written with several threads that keep the reader's interest. It revolves around the lives of four people who work at the post office. One of them is retiring and the other three are maneuvering to replace him in the dead letter office. But can they handle the job? A novella-length read.
