Book Description

September 14, 2000
Like Boogie on Tuesday is the story of 2 sisters, Nina Madison and Troi Singleton who struggle to leave behind their oppressive upbringing and their dissatisfaction with life that includes an alcoholic mother and sometimes absent father. Nina and Troi are left wondering who they can trust. Nina finds herself in one compromising relationship after another and vows to never love again until she meets womanizing pretty-boy Tim Richardson. Troi believes that her marriage of 3 years to her husband Vaughn will last forever until his devastating secret is uncovered. Tim Richardson is a catch for sure, but while balancing his goals and his craving for companionship, he allows Nina to touch places in him once forbidden. Is Tim enough to renew Nina's faith in men? And will the revelation that Vaughn shares with Troi waver her faith in love?

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Grosvenor musters some of the ingredients for a lively romantic drama, but squanders them in pages and pages of exposition and endless inner monologue in her first commercially published novel (Sometimes I Cry was a self-published hit). Nina, the proud, bright director of a market research company in New York City, has issues with being overweight; she constantly fantasizes about meeting Mr. Right, but has no luck in love. Tim, a procrastinating, immature womanizer who envisions himself as a future Spike Lee, has been playing the field so long he can't imagine settling down, despite his matchmaking sister Rochelle's best efforts. The two eventually end up on a few unsuccessful dates, but their happily ever after is postponed while a plethora of smaller stories work themselves out, including one featuring Nina's sister, Troi, who owns a beauty shop and has what appears to be the perfect balance between family, work and religion. Troi gets the shock of her life when her husband, Vaughn, admits to infidelity, having given in to temptation with another man whose motives for destroying relationships are right out of a bad soap opera. Despite the deadly pace (the first six pages are devoted to providing useless information about Nina, such as the fact that her favorite fabric is moleskin), awkward cliches and similes ("a man whose word was as faithful as God and gift-wrapped like a Godiva chocolate"), Grosvenor reveals a knack for character development. Perhaps next time she will figure out how to handle backstory, and it won't take forever to get to the plot. Agent, Claudia Menza. National print advertising in African-American women's magazines.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovin' Like Boogie, March 18, 2001
By
Simone Hawks (Greensboro, North Carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Like Boogie On Tuesday (Paperback)
"Like Boogie on Tuesday" is a book that I can honestly say that I got to know each character and could feel their emotions. Nina, is smart, she has a good job, makes good money, and has no self-esteem, so she allows herself to be a doormat for her boyfriend Derek. Nina has grown up with an alcoholic mother and a father who stood by and did nothing. Troi, Nina's sister seems to have it all, a perfect husband, child, and her own business. But her life is not what it seems to be, and one day her whole world is shattered. Troi has to look to her Faith and strength to get her through. Tim, an aspiring film maker is a bright and attractive man who can't seem to commit. One day just as things are going great in his life , his past comes back and slaps him in the face and he has to reevaluate his whole life.

Vaughn, Troi's husband is a very attractive man who seems to have it going on, but he is hiding a secret that could destroy his marriage and his life. Vaughn goes through many ups and downs but it is faith and love that will keep him strong.

This book is a must read. It will make you laugh and it will make you cry, and that is what is important a book that makes you feel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Boogie on DOWN and pick up a copy of LBOT today!, January 7, 2001

This review is from: Like Boogie On Tuesday (Paperback)
I sat down one night to read a couple pages of this novel, and ended up red-eyed and full of so many emotions as I placed the finished book down at 3 in the morning. Had to actually e-mail the author and let her know just how profound I found her book to be. LBOT taps into so many levels and issues; spirituality, homosexuality, individuality, being overweight, lies, deceit, betrayal, love, and Grosvenor does a wonderful job in interweaving each of these intricacies into LBOT, giving the reader a roller coaster of a ride through the lives of sisters Nina and Troi who are faced with situations that leave them coming to grips with not only their spirituality, but also, as Troi will face her own mortality. LBOT is a gripping tale of how loving God, and trusting Him in your life can ultimately lead you to a newfound wisdom and to love of self and others. It's a must read for any reader who prides themselves in reading great literature.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love the night life...I love to Boogie~, January 31, 2001
This review is from: Like Boogie On Tuesday (Paperback)
Don't let the small print stop ya, this is a very filling book. I am very glad I picked it back up, and so will you. Dominique starts out by giving you a glimpse into each characters childhood and past. Showing us what could've possibly made them who they are today in the book. I fell in love with one character while wanting to shoot another. While reading Like Boogie on a Tuesday you will meet Tim who has some really destructive and screwed up women issues, and Nina whose idea of love or having a man is enough to make you wanna slap her into the 'New Age'. Check out Nina's sister Troi who appears to have everything you could ask for or does she?? Troi's husband Vaughn in his mid twenties still trying and fighting with the little boy in him..... Dominique introduces alot of characters in this book, who are all dysfunctional in their own way. (Aren't we all) Don't sleep on them because I guarantee you will miss something about. She evens has my favorite furbabie in this book a Shih Tzu...the cutiest animal in the American Kennel Club. I believe the author is trying to tell us, we cannot run from who we are nor can we escape things from our childhood by ignoring or buring them, we need to regurgitate. Great book!
