Lovin' Like Boogie,
By Simone Hawks (Greensboro, North Carolina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Like Boogie On Tuesday (Paperback)
"Like Boogie on Tuesday" is a book that I can honestly say that I got to know each character and could feel their emotions. Nina, is smart, she has a good job, makes good money, and has no self-esteem, so she allows herself to be a doormat for her boyfriend Derek. Nina has grown up with an alcoholic mother and a father who stood by and did nothing. Troi, Nina's sister seems to have it all, a perfect husband, child, and her own business. But her life is not what it seems to be, and one day her whole world is shattered. Troi has to look to her Faith and strength to get her through. Tim, an aspiring film maker is a bright and attractive man who can't seem to commit. One day just as things are going great in his life , his past comes back and slaps him in the face and he has to reevaluate his whole life.Vaughn, Troi's husband is a very attractive man who seems to have it going on, but he is hiding a secret that could destroy his marriage and his life. Vaughn goes through many ups and downs but it is faith and love that will keep him strong. This book is a must read. It will make you laugh and it will make you cry, and that is what is important a book that makes you feel.

Boogie on DOWN and pick up a copy of LBOT today!,
By ChickLitGurrl™ "Shonell Bacon" (Lake Charles, LA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Like Boogie On Tuesday (Paperback)
I sat down one night to read a couple pages of this novel, and ended up red-eyed and full of so many emotions as I placed the finished book down at 3 in the morning. Had to actually e-mail the author and let her know just how profound I found her book to be. LBOT taps into so many levels and issues; spirituality, homosexuality, individuality, being overweight, lies, deceit, betrayal, love, and Grosvenor does a wonderful job in interweaving each of these intricacies into LBOT, giving the reader a roller coaster of a ride through the lives of sisters Nina and Troi who are faced with situations that leave them coming to grips with not only their spirituality, but also, as Troi will face her own mortality. LBOT is a gripping tale of how loving God, and trusting Him in your life can ultimately lead you to a newfound wisdom and to love of self and others. It's a must read for any reader who prides themselves in reading great literature.Shonell Bacon....

I love the night life...I love to Boogie~,

This review is from: Like Boogie On Tuesday (Paperback)
Don't let the small print stop ya, this is a very filling book. I am very glad I picked it back up, and so will you. Dominique starts out by giving you a glimpse into each characters childhood and past. Showing us what could've possibly made them who they are today in the book. I fell in love with one character while wanting to shoot another. While reading Like Boogie on a Tuesday you will meet Tim who has some really destructive and screwed up women issues, and Nina whose idea of love or having a man is enough to make you wanna slap her into the 'New Age'. Check out Nina's sister Troi who appears to have everything you could ask for or does she?? Troi's husband Vaughn in his mid twenties still trying and fighting with the little boy in him..... Dominique introduces alot of characters in this book, who are all dysfunctional in their own way. (Aren't we all) Don't sleep on them because I guarantee you will miss something about. She evens has my favorite furbabie in this book a Shih Tzu...the cutiest animal in the American Kennel Club. I believe the author is trying to tell us, we cannot run from who we are nor can we escape things from our childhood by ignoring or buring them, we need to regurgitate. Great book!

Over 15 characters and you lose me...,
By Debbie Behan Garrett "Black-Doll Enthusiast" (Dallas, TX USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Like Boogie On Tuesday (Paperback)
I think Ms. Grosvenor attempted to tell too many stories in Like Boogie On Tuesday. There are a host of characters who all have a host of issues that stem from childhood experiences and/or adult experiences. The main four characters are: Tim -- a womanizing, aspiring filmmaker who loses his parents at a young age and is "mothered" by his older sister. Because Tim can 'get any woman he wants', womanizing and an obvious disrespect for women are his biggest flaws. Nina - one of Tim's many women, is somewhat neurotic and has several phobias. She goes through life with a "what if" stance. Nina has been overweight all of her life, appears to be self-assured on the outside, but really lacks self-esteem from past ridicule and relationships with men that sour. Her mother is a critical alcoholic and her father, quite distant. Troi - Nina's younger sister, owner of the Shangrila Hair Salon, thinks she is happily married to her childhood sweetheart with whom she has conceived her only child, Dakoda. She eventually learns that her husband has been living an "invisible life" and that her happy marriage is not so happy after all. Vaughn - the invisible lifer and Troi's husband, has been battling his confused sexuality since childhood. However, he waits until after marrying his childhood sweetheart and fathering their daughter to act out on his desires. Big mistake Vaughn... There are a host of other characters in this book, approximately 15 total, who are somehow associated with the main four. There are just too many issues and too many people to allow the reader to stay focused and for the reading to flow with ease.

Life, Love, Betrayal, God,
By Laurie (NYS) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Like Boogie On Tuesday (Paperback)
All these things and a whole lot more introduces you to a story about family and God's grace. "Like Boogie..." touches on infidelity, love, trust, and what can happen when you step out without protection. I was holding my breath as I read this book. A story about two sisters and their dysfunctional family, and two men in a struggle to prove who they are, without jeopardizing anyone in the process. Ms. Grosvenor did a wonderful job in telling you that with faith, all things are possible. A must read.

It's Like Fire...,
This review is from: Like Boogie On Tuesday (Paperback)
Five stars does no justice to "Like Boogie on Tuesday." A wonderful story of love, relationships, forgiveness, and family. The characters faced true to life situations with conviction, strength and the wherewithall to weather any situaiton they were confronted with. The book portrayed male and female characters as real people struggling with life. It was hard to put the book down out of fear of missing out on something. Like Boggie...is sure to pique the literary interest of many a reader. You have to read the book to understand. But hopfully the author will scratch out a follow-up. The characters are too rich not too. Kudos to Ms Grosvenor.

Delicious read!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Like Boogie On Tuesday (Paperback)
Like Boogie on Tuesday is a beautifully written book. The characters, each wrestling with his or her issues and demons, are rich, memorable, and engrossing. This novel is not a fast-food type of read. Rather, it's more along the lines of a sit down, gourmet meal. Ms. Grovesnor's style of writing insists that readers take their time enjoying every single page, every episode, every revelation. Linda Dominique Grosvenor is a true wordsmith, and Like Boogie on Tuesday, is a curl up with a cup of hot tea, your favorite blanket, and an escape from it all mentality kind of read not to be missed!

Too much narration and not enough storytelling,
By felisha holland (Pinole, ca United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Like Boogie On Tuesday (Sepia) (Paperback)
This book was boring. The author narrated on and on instead of telling the story. Too much info into the characters past. You can pretty much sum up a character in one chapter. There was no interaction with the characters, which makes it less entertaining. I think there is a great story here, but it gets washed out with all the narration.

Awfully Disappointed,
By Reecie Cup (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Like Boogie On Tuesday (Sepia) (Mass Market Paperback)
It pains me to have to write this truthful review on this book for the simple fact that I met the author at a book signing and she seems to be a nice person. However, the truth is Like Boogie on Tuesday is an extremely slow moving novel. It is a very thick book with many pages (around 540 pages or so) and not a quick read at all. It takes until about the first 150 pages or more to really find out what the book is really about and what is actually going on. I was totally lost in the first 80 or 90 pages. I am a book lover and I found myself wanting to just give up and toss this book aside, but I decided against that. Another thing about the book is that the author wrote it entirely too proper, which makes it boring. She should have loosened up her language and dialogue. I really struggled to finish it. I heard that there is a sequel to this book, but I doubt that I'll read it, since this book is an indication of slow, boring and overly written. I don't mean to sound discouraging, but this is what reviews are all about. I am only speaking the truth from my perspective. Mrs. Groversnor has writing potential, no doubt, but she just needs to tighten up on her storytelling approach, get to point of her story more swiftly and excitingly, and use a thesaurus more often in simplifying words. Thank you.

a good stab at literature,
By sommilla (Brooklyn, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Like Boogie On Tuesday (Sepia) (Paperback)
I'd like to say that I like the lyrical style of Ms. Grosvenor and that the story reads more like literature than a drama-filled sistergirl book. I don't think this is the book for you if you have 15 more in a pile you are waiting to read but this is a book you can savor and get to know every character and for me that's what reading is about anyway, taking you into the mind of the lives of the characters you're reading about not just glossing over topics and event to get to the end. I can't wait for the sequel.
