The Andrews Sisters sang so well--but the sound could be a bit better,

This is a good three CD box set of songs by The Andrews Sisters! There is much to like about this set: we get forty-two tracks of songs both famous and not so famous all performed to perfection. The Andrews Sisters never sounded better; and that's grand. The quality of the sound is pretty good although it could be somewhat better. "Bei Mir Bist du Schön" was one of their very first hits; and other big hits for this sister act include "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree (With Anyone Else But Me);" "Rum and Coca-Cola;" "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy;" "Hold Tight (Want Some Sea Food, Mama);" "I'll Be with You in Apple Blossom Time;" "Beat Me Daddy, Eight to the Bar;" "Don't Fence Me In;" "Straighten Up and Fly Right" and more. Other tunes they do a splendid job on include "When the Midnight Choo Choo Leaves for Alabam';" "The Jumpin' Jive;" "Joseph! Joseph!;" "Jealous;" "Blue Tail Fly" and "Civilization (Bongo, Bongo, Bongo)." Duets feature Bing Crosby and others; The Andrews Sisters recorded a number of duets especially with Bing and they just plain sounded good all together! Overall, this is some set of songs by The Andrews Sisters. True, the sound could have been improved, but fans of this very special sister act would still do well to add this to their music collections. |
