5.0 out of 5 stars Not to be missed!, December 5, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Boogie Woogie Riot (Audio CD)
Here are 23 superb examples of boogie-woogie at its best. Included are several prime specimens of the keyboard genius of Pete Johnson and others, along with the guitar wizardry of Earl Hooker and Lightnin' Hopkins, the accordian stylings of Clifton Chenier, and much much more. Lightnin' on the Hammond organ is a revelation, and Piano Red's classic "Atlanta Bounce" is probably worth the price of the album all by itself.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice to have!, April 6, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Boogie Woogie Riot (Audio CD)
First four selections generate excitement. The remainder are for the completists. As with many Boogie Woogie pieces the simplicity of the performances reveals limitations of the style and leaves one longing for sophistication. Have listened to some pieces many times in an attempt to find interest in unnoticed subtleties. A good album to have, but it does not contain near to the best of Ammons, etc.
