The very best brush painting reference for bamboo,
This review is from: The Book of Bamboo (Paperback)
With very detailed and instructional text and tons of illustrations, this book is the absolute best reference for learning to paint the bamboo, one of the "four gentleman" of chinese and japanese style brush painting. I have a large collection of books on sumi-e, Chinese and Japanese landscape painting, etc, and this small paperback simply stunned me as to its completeness and excellent intruction on technique and aesthetics. The illustrations are very comprehensive, even including examples of "how not to paint" the bamboo stalk, branches, leaves, etc.

While this is a good book the current prices on available copies are exhorbitant. The illustrations are mediorcre and there are better, current resources. I say go to the library and read it, return it, and if you really want it, wait for a reprint.
