With very little experience with litters, we wanted a good handbook to guide us through this very stressful period. This book is an outstanding, concise description of all aspects of breeding and care for the bitch without the long cumbersome discussions found in other books. If you want MORE on genetics or breeding philosophy get other guides, but for the average breeder - here it is in a small easy to follow handbook with simple and helpful chapters following through from Pre-Breeding to Puppies.

Excellent read! This book is not only for those interested in breeding. It is a book that covers every aspect of the antomy and phisiology of a female canine. Great book to use for a reference and it will be referred to again and again!

Last year I bred my bitch for the first time. She is a very successful and valuable show bitch as well as a much loved family pet and I wanted to do EVERYTHING right for her sake.

I looked for information wherever I could find it and sought to buy a good book on whelping etc for the big event. I bought this book at a dog show and never looked back. It covers everything from buying a bitch puppy to her maturity, breeding and any associated health problems she may experience during her lifetime.

This book was my bible during this time and is now a little worse for wear after the experience. : ) It's been highlighted, flicked through - you name it. A friend of mine recently borrowed it for her litter - not her first... and she got as much out of it as I did as a first time breeder.

I'll be keeping this book for as long as I'm in dogs.... and if I sell any bitch puppies, I will give them a copy of this book as well. Every bitch owner should have a copy in my opinion. It's easy to read, goes through all you need to know without an overload of unecessary information. I'd heartily recommend it.

Excellent reading; a must-have for beginners and useful to breeders too

Over all understanding of a bitch is just fine. However, the section on pregancy is not detailed. The book should have cover a more comprehensive details of bitch pregnancy for potential readers, so that they will have a more better understanding of the pregancy cycle for bitches.

If you looking for a book regards bitch pregnancy, these will not help you much, you can try "dog breeding for professional".

If you thinking of getting a bitch, this book will be all right to tell you the pros and cons.

You must know what to prepare if you own a bitch, it will be quite messy though. (I have a bitch at home and I have learn how to handle her period with more care)

it will make this book a 5 stars if bitch pregancy section have a more info on it.

I have enjoyed this book greatly!!! This is a must for anyone with a Bitch. This book has great detail on how to understand your Bitch. Now that I know how my Bitch acts I can react to her in the proper way. This book will help you keep your Bitches in order...Must have if you have more than one Bitch.

A great book for breeders. Book is what it says... focuses on the care of your girl.

I do not care for this book at all. I would expect a book devoted to bitches to have a bit more on pregnancy. I have read, many many books on dogs, dog genetics, breeding, showing etc and this one is on the bottom of my list. It came across as very generic to me. Also, as a serious dog fancier, exhibitor and fancier I didn't particularly like hearing the words income and market used when referring to dog breeding.

When I first found my bitch (or shall I say, when my bitch found me!) I was completely lost. I didn't know the first thing about bitches and really needed to get literate. Quickly. I did a quick Google search on bitches and didn't find much. Then a trusted friend a fellow bitch enthusiast recommended this book to me. After borrowing his copy, I determined that I needed my own. Don't be mislead, it may lack a little about the pregnancy stage, but as far as becoming acquainted with bitches and familiar with all their needs, this is a must have. Read it cover for cover for a comprehensive understanding of bitches or just check the table of contents for that quick reference of that quick tip about caring for your bitch (or bitches.) It doesn't matter if you have one bitch, a bunch of bitches, or even a variety of different types of bitches like breeding bitches, show bitches, and/or bitches that you just keep around the house as pets! Before I got this book, I was doing a lot of things wrong when it comes to taking care of my bitch. Sometimes, she would make me so frustrated that I just wanted to pull back and slap my bitch. But the Book of the Bitch taught me all my wrongs and made me a well-informed and contemporarily educated bitch lover.

This book has opened my eyes to how to train and love my bitch. While most people mistreat or have no clue at all how to properly train their bitch, with this book, all those things can change. Until I had heard about this book, my bitch was untrained. This book taught me how to train and manage my bitch correctly and effectively. As far as the matter of pregnancy is concerned, there are other options out their for your bitch such as websites and articles, so the fact that the book didn't help me in that matter wasn't a very big deal.

This book made me understand my bitch and in a way, my bitch understands me a lot better. My bitch and I communicate better and she knows where we stand (or in my bitches case, sit). This book is for any and all bitch owners. Do not be misled by the frivolous comments people leave, this book can help you with your bitch and it definitely helped me with mine.

This book on bitches is a must have for all bitch owners out there!
