Not exactly shaken or stirred.......,

A bit of a disappointment as I thought this was supposed to be something of a new take on an encyclopedia of the Bond films but it is little more than a reprint of photos from the films with generic prose printed on the film in question.
Might satiate a novice's passing curiosity on the subject of the cinematic Bond or serve as a diversion in a dentists' waiting room but will do little else. Was expecting more I'm afraid.

Nothing special or new here, yet for Bond fans it still carries lots of panache. Beautiful photographs cronicle the history of the franchise from "Dr. No" to "Quantum of Solace". A nice addtion to any Bond collection. Too small to be a glamorous coffee table book but perfect size for that little table in the bathroom. One quick flip through the 160 pages of photos and mission acomplished Mr. Bond. Close the book, flush the toilet and say..."Bond Will Return..."

Quite Simple Really,
By gobirds2 (New England) - See all my reviews

This is not an extraordinary book by any means. I picked it up from the shelf, opened it, flipped through its pages and returned it. It was not very impressive. I turned and started to walk away. And suddenly something came over me. Something very nostalgic, something I could not discern came over me. They were all there, all twenty two of them. Bits and pieces, pictures and words, half forgotten memories strewn across its pages in chronological perfection. I really could not ask for more. Memories are precious things I suppose to some degree or another. It's really quite simple.

Some Very Nice Pictures from All the Bond Films,

This review is from: The Book of Bond (Hardcover)
This is a quick read that you can get through in a half hour. It covers all of the Bond films from "Dr No" to "Quantum of Solace." It gives each film approximately 8 pages and while mentioning some plot points, never goes into great detail.
What I loved were the pictures from the films. I own numerous books of the Bond films and there are many terrific shots that I had never seen before. I especially loved the shot of the luscious Karin Dor practically sitting on Connery's lap during the scene in "You Only Live Twice" where she has Bond tied up to a chair and is threaterning him with a scalpel. (I cannot imagine how Connery could have remembered his lines with this utterly beautiful woman sitting on his lap.) There are many other terrific shots as well. This is a small relatively inexpensive book. If you do not know much about the Bond films, you might want to check them out after glancing through this book. If you are a Bond fan like me, you will enjoy the new pictures. I recommend it for those reasons. |
