This book's been out of print for a while now. I can't really understand why this should be. It's one of the best cat books for both information and illustrations. Just ask any cat fancier..

I just bought a used version of this (I can't believe it's out of print) to replace one I lost. It's an extraordinary resource. A wealth of fascinating information on behavior, care, breeds, genetics, etc. Not the least bit dry, it is presented with clear and intriguing narratives and fun illustrations. And the original paintings by Peter Warner are exceptional. Someone update and republish this!!

I came hoping to replace my original copy of THE BOOK OF THE CAT, which I've had since the early '80s and is getting rather ragged. What a disappointment to hear it's out of print! The best, and easiest for a lay-person to follow, source of info on cat color genetics ever printed, and that is only one of many benefits to this great old resource.

A wonderful source of information all all aspects of cat physiology and mentality. It explains everything from how their hair and whiskers function, to the development of kittens. IDs many breeds and explains genetics. Every cat owner/lover should read it.

My mom got this book like 25 years ago, and for me it's still the best cat book I've owned. We are cat lovers and there have always been one or more cats around the house. I have a couple of other good cat books, written in recent years, but this one is a classic, a true cat bible. It has helped us a lot through time with all our doubts about cat ailments, behavior, matting, feeding habits, etc. It is full of useful information and truly guides you with the best choices for you cats. My copy is worn, yellowish, with some lose pages, but it's still a treasure I really cherish. If you can find a copy of this book I fully recommend it to learn more about our feline companions.

No cat breeder should even think about breeding before purchasing this book.

I bought this book in 1982 and I absolutely love it. I've purchased other books on cats over the years but always keep coming back to this one because it is the by far the best. The text is clearly organized, well-written and easy to understand, and the illustrations are unparalleled. I'm so disappointed it is still out of print. Wouldn't it be wonderful if an updated edition could be published.

I had lent my original copy of this book to a "friend" who never returned it. I have been looking for it for years and finally found it advertised on Amazon.com as a "used" book since it is no longer in print. I bought it for 24 cents plus shipping and it arrived the following week. It was in excellent condition and looked brand new. The sellers were marvelous and I plan on more purchases from them in the future. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

I purchased this book as an cat lover while at College. I am now 38 years old, I still have this book and my 12 year old has read it so much that the covers are falling off. This book has helped in the choosing of several pets / breeds, as well as helped us determine if an ailment needed vet attention, or to watch it closely. The illustrations and photos are attractive. The text is to the point. My child is now using this in understanding genetics in science class.
