5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely for the men!!!!
All I can say is WOW!!!!! After listening to this Cd I want to give it to all the men I know. This is a fo' real cd. David Hollister is telling his story which seem to be the situation of so many men. Track 4 "Help Me" Track 9 "Divorced", Track 13 "Where R U?/ Answer Me, Track 15 "I let heaven down" the stuggles of trying to be Saved and still having desires of the world...

3.0 out of 5 stars What to sat ? What to say ? What to say?
This is a hard review for me because if I was ever to consider myself a fan of anyone or anything it would be HIM. I think Chicago is one of the hottest CD I have. This CD reminds me of an old Clint Eastwood movie, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
The Good
*So many Scars
*Nothing but God
*Pray-Loved this song
*No One

The Bad...

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartfelt and Soulful, January 11, 2007
This review is from: Book of David: 1 the Transition (Audio CD)
Love the CD especially My Pain, I Let Heaven Down, Morning After, I've Changed, What Do You Do, Take Me Back (teaser), No One, Settlement (needs a high drama video), and other tracks on this CD are definitely memorable. I play this CD everyday. Some of the tracks are like listening to modern day Psalms.

5.0 out of 5 stars Should be on the top of the charts?????, January 1, 2007
This review is from: Book of David: 1 the Transition (Audio CD)
I don't know why this is not the number one cd on the charts right now. I bought this cd simply because I am a Hollister fan. I always, always knew he had the Word in him and now that he is singing about it, OMG. I tell you, I have never cried over anybody's divorce before. I have never been married and his situation has touched me so. And I must say, I cry on more than one song, because I can sense what he is going through and identify with it spiritually. I am struggling too, and this helps sooo much, to know I am not alone. This is just what I needed.
I can identify with everything he is going through even the divorce, because of it happening to family members the same way. This is another off the chain cd by David. We should be seeing videos on BET,MTV,BETJ,VH1 and so on. I am wondering why they are not promoting this cd like they promote the not so profound cd's?
Keep them coming David. And you mean to tell me this is just Vol.1, there's more? OMG, can't wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dave helped me, October 17, 2006
This review is from: Book of David: 1 the Transition (Audio CD)
I must give Dave Hollister credit where it is due. I will be the first to admit that I have a weakness for r&b music.
When I heard my favorite singer Dave Hollister had a gospel cd out, I knew I had to hear it for myself.
I absolutely love the cd from beginning to end.
I can honestly say that Dave makes me want to listen to Gospel music.
I have a long way to go in my walk with God...and I want people to know Dave Hollister has helped lead me towards the right path.

The Good
*So many Scars
*Nothing but God
*Pray-Loved this song
*No One

The Bad
*The Potter-(yah, yah it's old 1time famous song-so over it) I didn't like this song, maybe it's how Dave sang it?
*Quesion- E.U, What do you do-This song was kind of off for me.
*Reach out to me

The Ugly
*Help Me
*I let heaven Down
*Divorce
*The Settlement
*His Talking*

There no doubt Dave can sing and his 1st attempt at Gospel is very interesting. It's like he couldn't make up his mind what he wanted this CD to be. It's like he forgot all the things that he learned while doing R& B and wanted to start Fresh except some of the things he did in R&B he did well and should have done here, like have tight harmony and a serious hook. He does a lot of talking on this CD but for me I could have done without. He has sung gospel before and he tore it up. So why not on his own CD?

If your a fan you will enjoy this because it's Dave. When the track is good it's very good. When it's bad it's just UGLY.

3.0 out of 5 stars Was Very Dissapointed, But I still Luv My Boi Dave Hollister!, May 2, 2007
This review is from: Book of David: 1 the Transition (Audio CD)
Lord what can I say??? Is it me or when some secular artist crossover into the gospel genre of music, it seem like they loose all of their musical capability. We all know that the brotha can SANGGGG hands down, but on this CD the songs just did not exemplify the talent, the emotions, nor the vocals. I really wasn't feelin it b/c when i heard that Dave Hollister had gotten saved and was comin out with a gospel project, I was on my toes b/c I used to listen to his secular projects and say to my self "if this kat ever get saved 4real and do gospel, man it's on!" And for his 1st gospel project, I wasn't impressed and strangly I've actually seen Dave minister since he's been saved and this kat can really usher in the presence of God, not just merely vocals and the fact that he can sing, but he's anointed too! So I was disappointed that did not reflect on his CD. I know producers and writers also play a major part in an artist like Dave esp. crossing over from secular music. Maybe with the right producers and more growth in GOD as a worshipper, we'll hear more from this powerhouse man of God on his upcoming projects. But as for this one, I wouldn't go around recommending adding it to your CD case for your listening pleasure, but just for the simple fact one of my favorite secular artist gave up the world and came on the Lord's side, i'd buy it just to support him.

3.0 out of 5 stars Glad for the soul transition, but the music didn't come with him..., May 2, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Book of David: 1 the Transition (Audio CD)
I read another review that said this and it's true, musically, this CD did NOT sound like what I expected. When Dave was doing secular music, his stuff was the "jam," but I didn't listen to some of the songs because the lyrics weren't the most Godly...

On this project, the songs were mostly slow, which can work for those who have intricate melodies, and complex harmonies, which is what his music used to sound like. No reason why the Gospel offering can't sound just like that. What's missing is the funky bass lines, tricky chords, etc. something to hold your attention musically.

I am VERY glad that he's given his life to Christ-which is really the most important thing, so I'll just say DAVE, keep making music for the Lord, just get you some different producers :)

This CD was just ok.

3.0 out of 5 stars Book of David Vol 1, April 29, 2007
This review is from: Book of David: 1 the Transition (Audio CD)
I like a few songs on this cd. One big negative about this album was a series of songs that were NOT gospel, just him venting about his divorce. He does have an incredible voice, and i feel with a little more age he will be good. It was an okay first gospel effort.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dave "knew" What To Do...., December 11, 2006
This review is from: Book of David: 1 the Transition (Audio CD)
After hearing Help Me and No One on the net, I brought this CD. I usually have to hear to lease 4 to 5 good songs to buy a CD. TO ME this is one of the Greatest Transition ever recorded.

This CD covers all the bases, It's so important to know there is forgiveness for failure. Dave(singing, PREACHER)Hollister, Thank you for allowing all the realness to flow thru you. What to do and Help Me are my stay on track songs.

I Pray that God perfects the work he has begun in you.
