Etherial, Whimsical, Hopeful,
This review is from: The Book of Eli (Audio CD)
Few disagree that a great movie must also have a great score that balances but doesn't overpower. The Book of Eli is a fantastic movie, whether you are religious or not. And what makes it so powerful, in large part, is that it is perfectly scored. The electronic reverbs of guitar and piano echo throughout the soundtrack and give it an empty, desolate feel... But a hopeful one. Just like the movie.
Make no mistake, if you heard the music in the movie... It is on this CD. That entrancing guitar at the end of the movie is on the soundtrack. It's all here folks! However, if you are just looking for that characteristic song that you love from the movie, It's only present on a single track: "Panoramic" is THAT song. So definitely buy that one! If you love ambient, electronic music... You will LOVE this soundtrack. Enjoy!

Powerful Ethereal and Industrial Rock Soundtrack,
By
This review is from: The Book of Eli (Audio CD)
If you are a fan of Ethereal or Gothic Rock from the 80's and 90's, this movie score is right up your alley. The score was produced entirely by Atticus Ross, which is impressive considering this is only the second feature film that he's composed original music for exclusively. Quiet as kept, Ross was himself was 1/2 of a rock band that both opened up for Marilyn Manson, and worked with a variety of other artists like Trent Reznor of NIN. So if you're wondering how a fledgeling movie composer hits the nail on the head composing dark music for a dystopian film, that's your answer.
The tone of the soundtrack ranges from ambient/atmospheric (Blind Faith) to Industrial Rock (The Convoy) reminiscent of Machines of Loving Grace on The Crow soundtrack. If you like electronic music with a dark edge, Industrial Rock, or Ethereal music, you would enjoy owning this soundtrack.

This soundtrack is straight-up awesome. It is completely different from what any soundtrack is expected to be and it succeeds in that area.I bought this immediately after seeing the movie and I have been unable to stop listening to it. It's awesome. Buy it.

Very moving and atmospheric score. A fulfilling listening experience on it's own, unlike many scores that need the visual to justify.

Incredible,
This review is from: The Book of Eli (Audio CD)
The movie(The Book of Eli) is great, for someone who doesn't generally watch these kinds of movies, I was really taken aback by the atmosphere which was created during the film. The way the film-makers do this is though the soundtrack.
I simply can't even describe how good the soundtrack is, the previews which Amazon provide do the music so little justice. This is such a fantastic set of tracks and it's well worth buying if you're considering it! Panoramic is the one to buy if you're looking just to grab a single track from this set, it's the one you'll be looking for if you've not come for the whole album.

where's al?,

where's the opening song by al green? that old bee gees tune, "how do you mend a broken heart?" anybody? anybody? bueller?
that one song sets the tone for the entire film. don't get me wrong, i love atticus ross. the music was excellent and didn't overpower the film but i would really like to know where/how i can get a copy of the version of this song they used for the movie. the tempo seems to be a bit slower with less instrumentation. it gives it a haunting, anachronistic feel, making eli seem a man out of his time.

Not all the tracks are great. But, the ones that are good are definetly worth the price. I'd say I enjoy listening to 70% of the tracks. Listening to the tracks really brings you back to the drama of the film all over again.
It's not your average movie score either . Atticus Ross brings a more modern type of score with alot of different sounds and ambient noises along with your everyday strings and horns of a movie score. The combination brings a very good pace for the tracks. There are some more basic piano tracks like "human" as well. Each song brings a little something different . My personal favorite would have to be "The Journey" which is a great combination of all the tracks rolled into one great track. Even though the track that made me want to buy the CD was the very first track "Panoramic". And the tracks "Outland", "Den Of Vice", and "Movement" gives me great hope that I can look forward to listening to the next score Atticus Ross comes up with knowing there are some greats tunes in store for me. If you like movie scores I highly suggest this CD.

Panoramic is the best track. If you can't buy the whole album, go for that one. I have to say the soundtrack fit the movie perfectly. You can feel the weird futuristic/desert background the movie portrayed. It also makes you feel so incredibly VAST. But in a gorgeous way. It's hard to describe. Go see the movie, it was very good by the way. I loved it and I'm not even religious or anything.

The Book of Atticus Rose,

Never heard of this artist before I saw the movie, but was moved by the music during the movie and ordered the soundtrack pretty much blind. And, to me, it was worth the purchase. It branched me out a little into the techno/mood music world, introduced me to Atticus Rose, and recalls those great scenes from the movie that I loved. If you loved the movie, you'll dig the soundtrack.
