Contains the story of the Watchers (fallen angels) who fathered the Nephilim ("sons of God"), April 29, 2009
This review is from: The Book of Enoch or 1 Enoch (Paperback)
This is a reprint of the 1912 R.H. Charles translation of The Book of Enoch (or 1 Enoch). The Book of the Watchers, which is the first part of The Book of Enoch and tells the story of the fallen angels, is thought to have been written approximately 300 years prior to the New Testament. Thus, the New Testament writers probably were quite familiar with The Book of Enoch, and it was even referenced in Jude 1:14-15.
Also, one can see the parallel between Azazel in The Book of Enoch and Satan in popular Christian belief. In The Book of Enoch, Azazel is portrayed as the chief fallen angel. After Azazel corrupts the earth by teaching humankind about forging weapons of war and using cosmetics and jewelry to emphasize appearance, God commands the archangels to bind Azazel and the rest of the fallen angels (specifically ordering that Azazel be cast "into the darkness"). Although the text can be cumbersome at times and is heavily foot-noted, it is still a quite interesting read and gives insight into early Christian thought.
