Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Mighty giants meet a down-to-earth boy in the 1972 Christopher Award-winning The Book of Giant Stories by David L. Harrison, illus. by Philippe Fix. In each of the three tales, the villains end up overshadowed by good sense and practical wisdom. Fix creates a forbidding landscape of craggy trees, fern-filled forests and darkened lairs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magnificent!, March 17, 1998
I was given this book when I was 4 years old, and loved it then. I recently dug it out of a box and read it to my child, and it still holds the same magic. The pictures are excellent. Each time you looked, you saw something different. The stories are cute, and keep children quite entertained (from about 4 yrs and up).

This review is from: The Book of Giant Stories (Hardcover)
I was so happy to find that this wonderful storybook from my childhood was still in print. I remember the wonderfully detailed illustrations and the charming stories. The little boy who appears throughout the stories is quite endearing and children can relate to him as he interacts with the giants, being sometimes clever and sometimes thoughtful and empathetic. His use of a "secret" to escape three mischievous giants in the beginning is particularly amusing. Our copy was lost during a move and I am thrilled that I can now read these tales to my own daughter.

By A Customer
I read this book to my children in Germany 25 years ago. I found a used copy recently here in Houston and am going to buy several new copies for my present and future grandchildren. Very comforting to read! Erda Hillmann Houston, TX
