5.0 out of 5 stars Magnificent!
I was given this book when I was 4 years old, and loved it then. I recently dug it out of a box and read it to my child, and it still holds the same magic. The pictures are excellent. Each time you looked, you saw something different. The stories are cute, and keep children quite entertained (from about 4 yrs and up).

3.0 out of 5 stars Four Funny Encounters with Giants
This is a collection of four funny stories about giants, in which a boy (rather like the boy in The Reluctant Dragon) encounters a giant and demonstrates his quick-wittedness by either outwitting or befriending him. The stories are lighthearted and fun, although not great literature, and they are illustrated with very nice paintings. These funny, simple stories are...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great memories, April 12, 2005

This review is from: The Book of Giant Stories (Hardcover)
I was so happy to find that this wonderful storybook from my childhood was still in print. I remember the wonderfully detailed illustrations and the charming stories. The little boy who appears throughout the stories is quite endearing and children can relate to him as he interacts with the giants, being sometimes clever and sometimes thoughtful and empathetic. His use of a "secret" to escape three mischievous giants in the beginning is particularly amusing. Our copy was lost during a move and I am thrilled that I can now read these tales to my own daughter.

I read this book to my children in Germany 25 years ago. I found a used copy recently here in Houston and am going to buy several new copies for my present and future grandchildren. Very comforting to read! Erda Hillmann Houston, TX

5.0 out of 5 stars One of our all-time favorite children's books., May 30, 1998
By A Customer
This was the book we read countless times without ever becoming bored. The illustrations are outstanding. I loved the point of view in the stories: the children see and understand the giants, while the adults are a little "out of it". The children are always able to control their encounters with the giants, so that the children come out of the story having shown strength, understanding and compassion.

These funny, simple stories are perfect for the make-believe stage of children's play, but are not complex enough to retain their appeal for older readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fond memories of childhood, August 10, 2005

This review is from: The Book of Giant Stories (Hardcover)
The stories, poems, and illustrations in The Book of Giant Stories are among the best I've ever found in a children's book. Filled with imaginative tales, such as the one about a young boy teaching a giant how to whistle, the illustrations bring the stories to life for young readers. Even those children who are just beginning to learn to read will find Harrison's stories a joy. Parents will be overjoyed to find a book which encourages their child to read it again and again.

David Harrison's book made a lasting impression on my imagination as a child. I loved this book all those many years ago and was positively delighted when I found a copy of it recently. Not many children's books stay with you for 20+ years, but this one certainly has remained one of my favorites.

I was overjoyed when i found this book! My mother read this to me as a young child and I was so thrilled when I began to look for it and found it here! Can't wait to share it with my 3 boys and hoping that they will have as many great memories of it as I have. I think it really says something about a book when at 38 years old I still picked this book as one of my favorites, and plan to revisit the stories with my family in 2010.

I loved this book as a child, and it had such an impression on me that I sought it out now as an adult to share with my nephews. The illustrations are detailed and wonderful, and the stories are a lot of fun.
