Book Description

1995 Schiffer Book for Collectors
Cast iron cookware has been necessary equipment for a well-stocked kitchen since it first became available through mass-production in the 19th century. These solid reminders of a bygone era-cornstick pans, griddles, Dutch ovens, gem pans, and teapots-can be displayed proudly and used everyday. With over 900 photographs documenting variations of shape, size, dates, moldings, finishes, hardware types, catalog numbers and markings, this book is much more than an encyclopedia : it is the definitive reference. This book contains comprehensive histories of the manufacturers Griswold, Wagner, Sidney Hollow Ware, Favorite, and Wapak, as well as patent lists for meticulous researchers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Consider it the Bible of Cast Iron, September 18, 1998

Finding the author online and then finding his book. What a great book for the first time collector, the continuing collector or the expert. Precise information presented in and easy to read format. Great pictures and lots of neat little notes. A sample of the pricing of any and all. Includes a short history of most of the companies that have made cast iron cookware, and other items in cast iron.

Being a collector, dealer and trader with my own online cast iron business..., this the what most collectors call the Bible of Griswold or the BLUE book. It is well laid out with great pictures. The author, Dave Smith, is friendly and easy to approach with questions and is very knowledgeable. It is the first book I go to.

This is a good resource book, just wish it had a laminated cheat sheet to carry around of all the logo's with the dates.
I can't keep all the info in my head! I found a salesman sample waffle iron the other day, but thanks to my book I knew
it was a remake they did in 1990 or so, but since it was priced at $250 I wouldn't have bought it anyway! But good book
glad I bought it!
Thanks!
