4.0 out of 5 stars Happy the Man Successor? May 20, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Really good release from this new group. The music is all instrumental and very much in the vein of Happy the Man. Complex interplay of instruments(acoustic and electric guitar, drums, bass, synth)dominated by synth on most cuts, upbeat and cheerful sounding generally. Tracks range from intimate to grand in scale. The cover art is superb, just like the musical content. The MP3 version is a steal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Short review - Channeling Hackett and Genesis February 13, 2012
By wadrad
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Wow, this product is SO mid-70's Genesis and Hackett, it's not even funny. BUT, if you like mid-70's Hackett and Genesis, and you don't mind that it's not actually Hackett or the rest of the Genesis gang playing it, then I suspect you'll like this as well. I happen to really enjoy "Voyage of the Acolyte" (vintage Hackett) and "A Trick of the Tail", so this is right in line with what I like. And just to clarify a bit, when I say it's like Hackett, it's not referring to his guitar playing (as this Willowglass CD has a clear keyboard focus), but mostly Hackett's solo sound from "Voyage of the Acolyte".

It looks like Willowglass is mostly just one guy with an extreme love for Genesis-sounding prog. On this recording, it's mostly just this guy and a drummer.

Zero points for originality, but at least 4 stars for the nicely written and professionally recorded realization of this guy's fixation with Genesis and Hackett.

5.0 out of 5 stars Breath of fresh prog air May 6, 2014

This is amazing music. The musicality almost took me aback when I first laid ears on Book of Hours. Reminded me of a mixture of Camel and Anglagard, if that's even musically possible... Coming to this from a prog lover's perspective, I would say that the music does slightly lack dynamic range; there isn't much pounding out of the instruments at the ends of the crescendos, but the melodies and super catchy riffs more than make up for that. 6 stars!!!
