Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Can you imagine what it would be like to hug a bear? An octopus? And how does that differ from a brother hug? Or a Great-Aunt Mary hug? Dave Ross and illustrator Laura Rader's A Book of Hugs explores the full spectrum of hugs with bright, cartoonish illustrations and winsome one- or two-line descriptions. "Fish hugs are very cold and seldom returned," for instance. As for tree hugs, "Some trees are easier to hug than others. Note: If you hug a pine tree too long, you may get stuck on it." In the back you'll find "Facts and Hints About Hugging," including "Never hug tomorrow when you could hug today." This is perhaps the quintessential touchy-feely book, but it is awfully cute... and it makes a sweet valentine for kids of all ages.

From Publishers Weekly

A Book of Hugs by Dave Ross, illus. by Laura Rader, the first of a pair of board books, catalogues all manner of embraces, from "Puppy Hugs," which are "very soft and wet" to "Sister Hugs," which are "also known as a Single Arm Hug... [and] are good for when you walk together (even if you aren't sisters)." A Book of Kisses similarly enumerates the array of busses to be had.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "Must -Have for Every New Parent", September 26, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: A Book of Hugs (Paperback)
We purchased this book for our oldest daughter, now 17 and it remains a favourite of all three children. The famous "sandwich hug" is something we encorporated into our family traditions, along with "snuggle" (a longish hug), and "mummy" hugs (you can never have too many)...."A Book of Hugs" has shaped my parenting and our parent/child relationship in very positive ways. The humour of many of these unique hugs will not be lost on any parent!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Healthy Family Book, July 10, 2000
This review is from: A Book of Hugs (Hardcover)
This book is an excellent book for teaching young children about hugging. It talks about a variety of people you might wish to hug. It gives a cute description about the hug. I think parents will find this book "a must have" particularly with young children.
