Visionary apocalyptic painter Joe Coleman explores in excruciating detail his fascination with the junctions between saint and sinner, sacred and profane, holy and horrifying, as shown in this book's full-color plates. Using a single-hair brush and jeweler's magnifying lenses, Coleman packs his canvases with hallucinatory detail. Legendary in the world of lowbrow art, his work shows the technical skill of Robert Williams and the subject matter of a serial killer's dreams: terrifying and beautiful at once.
I am a (recovering) artist, author, editor, designer and curator. Through my company Gates of Heck, Inc, I co-created books with Annie Sprinkle and Joe Coleman; and published books by Maurice Vellekoop, Steven Cerio, Malcolm McKesson, Charles Burns, Gary Panter, Art Spiegelman, Caryl Burtner and others. I am probably best known for my research into non-conformist sexual subcultures, but I also write about and work with artists whose work interests me.
I am currently working on a YA novel, of all things, that will have very little to do with kinks -- at least in any obvious way.
